+Gemintronic
I think this was asked in one of Sprybugs topics. Does anyone know if the playfield can still be read as vars? Since drawing playfield pixels is a no go (currently) I don't think writing to them is possible.
RevEng
The DPC+ playfield doesn't use vcs ram like the standard bB kernel does, so there's no writing to it with simple commands. It looks like when you call playfield:, it takes the rom info and sends it to a DPC+ fractional fetcher. (think that's what it's called) The only way I see getting at it would be to have an ARM subroutine, or roll your own routine that sets up the fractional fetcher. (neither of which I'm up to speed on)

Not sure about reading them, but playfield drawing for DPC+ seems to be intact in the 1.1d version of batari I'm using (if you're referring to pfhline, pfvline and pfpixel, at least).
