Retrospect

TEXDEAL.zip Requires Extended Basic, and a sense of humour.

This is a brand new, reworked and improved Texan Dealer.

It now has a bank in Rio Grande City, where you can put money in your account with interest added each game day, a debt to pay off right at the start of the game ($2000, and each day you dont pay, interest is added on) ... there are new cities, and the cops bust you worse if caught with Cocaine!

Read the new instructions (Quite a nicely put together textfile which explains in better detail all the things to do in Texan Dealer)

 

Also included is a new option 6 to customise the screen and character colours, and the amount of days you play the game!

 

It's basically Dopewars for your TI99 .... go on, give it a go! You won't be accused of taking drugs just because you played it! :D

If you were to pick your best Jackpot version for the Gameshelf website, which one would you suggest? I don't want to crowd the site with too many similar types of games, especially that you are now diversifying your interests :grin: Also, do you want Ghosthouse and Big Guns published as well? What about these games: Lego2, Biplane and Blitz? I may have to create a special Joe Morris section just for you! Are you sure you're not taking Ritalin or something? ;)

Ok, for jackpot games I would definately love you to put up my Bar-X simulator (press 5 to insert coins) .... maybe Tombstone City jackpot too if we're stretching it ..... yes I'd like ghosthouse and Lego on there if you could .... Biplane would be good ..... :)

 

I'm still working on Big Guns .... it needs a total overhaul of the game engine, the graphics are there but everything else is cookoo .... thanks Vorticon! :)

My latest game, Freeway. Based on the game of the same name on the Atari VCS. This version has fast, smooth sprites with excellent coincidence detection. It's a right hoot!

 

Coming Soon : Big Guns (Could be early 2013)

Wow ! Freeway is absolutely so freakin' clean. Great graphics. Great colors. Great sprites and movement. Spot on collision detection. Great sound. Loading time top notch. System requirement is just the ordinary old school (Great !). This looks and feels sooo delicious !

 

I don't know if the distribution of the obstacles is random of handpicked, but I learned I sometimes didn’t have “safe spots”. Nice.

 

Too soon me (and my opponent) learned that you’d get pretty far by simply pushing the joystick up constantly. I would hope that with some effort you might be able to beat this (opponent holding joystick up). However I think some interest is lost at this point. The manual would clearly have to stress that a winner has to be pretty predictive and develop a sixth sense (practice makes perfect). If so, this will easily become one of the biggest selling cartridges from Texas Instrument in this godforsaken year of our Precious 1982 !

Hey I didn't realise about the "holding the joystick up" thing ... mmmm .... must look into that.

The sprite positions are hand-picked, I made it so you couldn't really get into any "safe spot" positions.

The collision detection is surprisingly good, I have to admit!

 

I played Freeway on the Stella atari VCS emulator and thought "Why the hell is this not on the TI99 ?!"

 

Also, I really have got to get to grips with Big Guns. I think I know what to do ... instead of massaging the code kindly given to me into my existing program, I'm going to redesign the graphics around the code given to me. Kind of like designing a car around an engine.

Many 2600 games are on my list, and quite a few has had enhanced graphics and more features laid out. Up till about this point in time, they would probably all be Assembly projects in my book, but it seems you’re changing conditions. I think I had 37 cartridges (got the list somewhere) when I turned my 2600 in for something else (might have been a disk drive).

 

I think you must forget about doing something to the obstacles and instead concentrate on penalty when doing something about the “holding joystick up”. Maybe if the player, after been pulled slightly backwards, is frozen and immune for 3 secs or something ?

 

Rasmus came to visit my office, so I turned on Classic99 (which he demands in full screen).

He had to try out all combinations, and he did smile. I tried and have a go at Itsy Bitsy Spider, but I think it’s completely out of tune. Guess you didn’t look up musical tone frequencies !?

 

Freeway

 

Now this was much more fun. Assigning one joystick to both ports and just holding the up key and betting on which got to 10 first was fun. I added a bit of excitement along the way, continuously making different soundeffects and comments. Yes, he laughed, and wanted another go, - now the other one was supposed to win. A bit like Furlong (the horserace game), but more exciting - guess due to obstacles and better overview of progress.

hehe ... glad your having fun with Freeway.

On my computer it was running very choppy and slow, but it was because my laptop needed a re-start! It's running like a dream now, really fast and smooth .... I've just been having a game with Jack and Rachel and they were laughing!

 

What I should do, if i do anything with Freeway, is make the chicken go further back than it does when hit .... I think that would probably add to the tension whilst the other chicken gets further along .... might also make they're wings flap as well .... thats a simple CALL PATTERN command .... also probably need to further enhance background graphics.
