Fallen Angels Demo

That video doesn't show it all. I love how you land like a harrier jet, hovering, like Rof too, but it looks soi much cooler here. It doesn't show actually picking up the stranded pilots, maybe becuase they aren't quite finished looking, but it's still cool. No enemies shooting in this video either! Is this an earlier version on video?

Everyone who can should be trying this demo over the holiday! CD, Skunkboard, BJL, or whateever!

Even though it's just one level, I can't seem to get enough of Fallen Angels. The basics of 'Behind Jaggie Lines' (RoF beta) are there, and it's an all-time favorite, so that's probably it. Anyway, I'v been looking for fun in other ways rather than just blowing up gun turrets and rescueing robot-looking pilots. So, I've destroyed two pilots outright, like in the video...not much fun. I've smashed a pilot as he was entering the ship by closing the air-lock on him (Pilot Killed displayed at top), and I vaporized a pilot before my very eyes while he was running to the ship, by raising shields. THAT was really cool!

How random is the Landscape generation? Is it on-th fly random like Rof, is each level pre-rendered and is as it is, everytime you play that level? Does it pre-generate before each time so that level one is no longer the same landscape twice?

There is another way to kill a pilot. "Ah! Sorry pal, I think the door is jammed!" ;)

The landscape data isn't randomly generated. It is pre-rendered using GIMP. It doesn't use much space so I can add many different terrains.

I will add most of the gameplay element from RoF: aliens, flying saucers, mothership sequences etc. The one I'm not sure is the day/night cycle.

I hope you can do the day/night cycle, but as long as you get what you said above (especially a really good Alien-in-the-window attack...maybe with a lightsaber in hand this time?), that would be good, especially if you are going to mix up the landscapes a bit and maybe add a couple things beyond the original RoF for suprises, then the day/night thing won't be missed. I'd like to see some kind of weather too maybe...how about leaving the ship to help a pilot under fire from aliens? some FPS foot soldier stuff. Anyway, even if you just get the basics of RoF and lots more levels and difficulty adjustments, I'll be a happy camper. Just dreaming a bit, I don't know how much extra effort you may be willing to put into an "upgraded update" with more gameplay elements rather than just updated graphics.

You can transform the file to burn on a CD using JiFFI. http://reboot.atari....boot/jiffi.html

Actually this was not possible with version 1.4 of JiFFI (the current public version on the Reboot site) as DrTypo's binary was an odd length and JiFFI never expected something like that :-) The version currently live on the Reboot site works with these files so if anyone was scratching their head wondering why the Jaguar CD player appeared, now you know! Sorry for any wasted CD-Rs and a big thanks to the users of NexGam once again being the speediest with bug reports :-)
