5200 Tempest Now Available!

Recommended Posts

Just played a few rounds. The joystick (a gold Best model) makes control very, very difficult. The trakball, on the other hand, is AWESOME with this game. Graphics and sound are amazing for the 5200. A must-have addition to any collection.

I personally prefer the joystick over the trak-ball. This is one game where the analog nature of the 5200 joystick works very well. :)

I wonder if my joystick is a little flaky then. It does not work well with Gyruss either. That game requires precise control from the analog stick. I just got it. I'll have to email Best.

I dont think Gyruss works well with the stock controllers . I use a cx 40 for it and it works great .

Now that I think about it, Gyruss works well with my Competition Pro digital stick as long as I have the analog stick that's attached perfectly centered. I remember Gyruss being very picky with a variety of sticks working in different ways. The Comp Pro was the only way to go. Maybe I just need more practice.

Got mine copy of Tempest today! It's amazing playing a new Atari 5200 cartridge after so many years. The joystick is very fast and takes some getting use to. I got 10,100 on my second try. The best way to play is probably with track ball while listening to the Tempest 2000 soundtrack. Thanks Al.

Got mine yesterday, finally just opened it. What amazing craftsmanship, Albert. Fine fine job. I'm going to try to get some time to myself this weekend to actually play this now. I remember wanting this as a kid, and never getting it... finally the day is here!!!

It's called "Midway Presents Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 1" Long title IMO. There's also a Williams collection but their not as good as the Atari collection. It's a faithful enough port although you have to use a D-pad instead of a spinner. There's also a couple of sixth gen "remixes" on PS1 and Jag, aka "Tempest 2000". I've got the PS1 game but I haven't played it yet.

Looking forward to 5200 Tempest, I recieved the EMail Confirmation a couple of days ago! I'm going nuts!

@ stardust - You really should pop that PS1 Tempest X3 in, it really is good. The Williams Atari Collection also can be played with a mouse or Trakball with a Smart Joy Frag adapter. If you are Spinner nuts like me take it a step further with a modded Spinner. Maybe might try the 5200 paddle mod later on?

got mine, review uploading now, i'll post a new thread when it's done. The only manual mistake i found, which honestly who gives a flying damn is "a unique" should be "an unique" again, who the hell cares, and also I did get the game to glitch which I show in the review.

Actually, "a unique" is correct, so that's not the error. (Look it up if you don't believe me).

Not in the English language I'm familiar with. I see how silent H's cause the 'an' over 'a' - "it is an homage to another game...". But I never heard or read "it is an unique game". ???

Take a look at the manual where it talks about the fire buttons...

I respectfully disagree, "a unique" is correct. Because "unique" starts with a consonant sound, the proper article to use before it is "a", not "an".
