Oooooh yeah! This game is a barrel of fun! I love this one!

It has a pretty wild point structure. Jumping multiple animals at once gives you mega points.

Here is the point schedule:

1 animal - 100 pt

2 animal - 5oo pt

3 animal - 2ooo pt

4 animal - 6ooo pt

5 animal - 15ooo pt

6 animal - 3oooo pt

7 animal - 6oooo pt

8 animal - 12oooo pt

9 animal - 25oooo pts!

No doubt, this game brings it!

Put your jumping shoes on, guys! Time for some Zoo Keeper.

I'll post a picture later, hopefully for a better score.

I've heard people talk about this game a lot over the last few years and now I see why; it's very fun, and the "greed" factor of the scoring system works to great effect.

I think Zoo Keeper lingers in relative obscurity because 1982 saw the release of a boatload of historical arcade titles that cast a very long shadow, such as: Burgertime, Dig Dug, DK Jr., Joust, Robotron, Moon Patrol, Xevious, Pole Position, Q*Bert, Zaxxon, and many others.

The controls take some getting used to; at first, the way your guy runs around the 90 degree bends had me wondering which way I was supposed to push the joystick. The coconut levels are pretty frustrating too, with the way your guy "bounces" when he lands on the platforms.

Very cool game, though.

I totally agree with you on the "greed" factor. I don't feel that there's much in the way of point scumming on this game. Take the coconut levels, for instance. You can stay on the level as long as you want, but the level gets very difficult VERY quickly if you decide you want to stick around. You have the weigh the risks...is it worth losing a precious life just to grab that extra 10K in points?

I got up to the lion stage in this game. It gets to a point where you're just jumping constantly, hoping you land in a hole small enough to jump again. It's a very addicting game.

It doesn't really pay to hang around too long on the first coconut board. Just try to get as many top platform jumps as you can while taking any second or third level fruits/items that role by. The first board starts off with 2500 on top platform lands, then doubles on subsequent ones until you get to 20000.

In a sentence, greed will always get you killed in Zoo Keeper. Keep control of your greed and let the point values go up exponentially. That is the only way to not get bit by an animal or a coconut.

My high is 444,350, but I got that awhile back.

Someone got 820,000 or something when this game was in competition last year.

I am hoping to at least hit the half a mil mark. :)

I think this technique is not allowed in the Twin Galaxies "rules" ... Jumping on the top platform.

Since the website is still not operational I cannot verify.

But, if I'm not mistaking they were limiting the number of jumps to 3 times.

Also, when we played back in 2010, the special rule was to limit the time spend on the coconuts level to 30 seconds.

I've done 814k in a Retrocade Mag event. Those forums are long gone but Rob did preserve the scores. Seems like I was consistently getting 400-500k games and I got lucky with a 500k Jump.
