Charlie_
I have a Retrobit Entertainment system and I can not get my Popeye cart to work. The system just shows a white screen just as if you turned it on with no game inserted. Also Gauntlet runs but when you start a game the map is messed up with wrong graphics and you can walk through some walls and stuff. Both games are fine with my front loader original NES. Are these incompatibilities with the Retobit system? I'm not much of an NES player, but of the 10 games I have these two don't work.
Lentzquest
I know the Retrobits have compatibility problems with a bunch of the black Tengen carts, Gauntlet definitely being one of them. I can't speak for Popeye though, I've never owned it.
Charlie_
Thanks, my Gauntlet in a gray cart. I do have a black Tengen pacman and that one does work with the retrobits. I wonder is there is a compatibility list for this system.
Lentzquest
Actually now I'm second guessing myself as I might be mixing up the last Retrobit I tried with my Generation NEX clone system. Regardless, Gauntlet is a particularly finicky game for clones. The video below is a show I like to watch on youtube. I believe these guys play on a Retron 3 or Retro Duo and they have a history of trying to feature Gauntlet on their show. It never goes well. In this one the characters can randomly walk through walls and stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kc71Gj_ktJc
Charlie_
Thanks for that link. That is exactly how my Gauntlet acts on my Retrobit system. Popeye though, you would think would work....
Taskmaster99
All the clones have issues with compatibility of some sort. My Retron 3 hasnt had an issue with the games I have (Popeye included). Maybe the Retron 5 will fix alot of that.
Uzumaki
Depends on how it plays game. If Retron 5 is something of Linux with emulator and physical cart slot, it might do better. Many of the Nintendo-On-A-Chip (NOAC) are rarely correctly wired for all of the uncommon and almost never used lines, which causes a few games to not work. Fixing it is very hard because the fix would have to be done on a die itself which are usually sealed under a black blob. There's also design flaw with NOAC that can glitch games and is well known for incorrect sound form as well.
gorfcadet
I hate the imperfections of systems on a chip clones, but I will get an R5 just for the hdmi and upscaling. I keep a crt in my office, but It'll be nice to have a unit for when company is over. I hate that they don't play Gauntlet and Rolling Thunder.
