javitu
Hello! I got my Harmony since the last week, but I need change EEPROM to PAL50. So I installed the Harmony program and it does not find my cartridge :-/ I have tested the program in two different Windows XP/32, Windows 7/64 and Ubuntu Linux/32, with three different USB cables. But I had no luck The cartridge works well with the BIOS file on the SD. This is the log from linux: javi@XXXXXXXXX:~$ sudo harmonycart Could not change serial port behaviour (wrong baudrate?) ralphb
I had the same problem on Kubuntu: My cart wasn't found by the harmonycart program. In my case this was caused by insufficient rights on /dev/ttyUSB0. Adding my user to group "dialout" was enough to fix it. Dran
I have the same problem. I've tried both in OS X 10.8 and Windows 7 and on 2 different computers. I've installed the drivers that came with the Harmony cart and even tried with a bit newer version download from ftdichip.com but the Harmony software does not find the cart. I use the USB cable and SD card that came with it. The cart works as intended when I plug it into my Atari 2600 jr except everything runs in ntsc mode (everything is black n white and the Harmony menu seems kind of distorted). I need to change to pal. Anybody got any suggestions?
+batari
If your cart was purchased in the past month or two, it may have a newer FTDI chip that the older drivers don't like and I might have forgotten to include the newer driver on the card. At any rate, download the latest drivers here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Thanks, Fred
Dran
I bought the cart a few weeks ago. I tried downloading the newest driver version at ftdichip.com but still no luck.
+batari
When you plug the cart into a Windows PC, you should get a window acknowledges the cart (usually "Harmony developer's cart" or similar). In device manager, it will appear there with a question mark if there's a driver issue. If there is no driver issue, it will appear as a com port once drivers are installed. Watch device manager as you plug in to see if it comes up. In Linux or OSX, you should see /dev/USBx or /dev/tty.USBxxxx or similar appear. Also in OSX you should see "Harmony developer's cart" in system profiler under one of the USB devices. Let me know what you see so we can better pinpoint the issue. If you aren't seeing the com port, USB string or anything at all you could even have a broken cable (it's new but stranger things have happened.) Dran
I tried reinstalling the driver in OS X, this time the 32bit version but nothing changed. I can't find USBX or tty.USBxxxx in /dev. The system profiler says the following: Composite Device: Product ID: 0x6015 Vendor ID: 0x0403 (Future Technology Devices International Limited) Version: 10.00 Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec Location ID: 0x14200000 / 15 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): Unknown (Device has not been configured) I also retried installing the driver in Windows 7 but it only shows up as an unknown device. When I plug the cart in a message pops up saying the device has malfunctioned or is not recognized. I also tried with another USB cable but no luck... +batari
It could be a dirty USB port - I had a cable that was giving me trouble so I threw it out, I assumed it was just worn from programming so many carts with it, but maybe it was dirty and it got your cart's USB port dirty too. There's not a whole lot of room for cleaning the USB contacts in there but if you can get something inside like the edge of a alcohol-soaked paper towel, that may work. It could also be a bad USB port or FDTI chip, and those will require returning the cart for repairs (free of charge, of course, but inconvenient for you ) It still could be a driver problem as it's enumerating as the proper PID/VID in OSX, but you should also see the ID string "Harmony Developer's Cart" so something is working, at least partially - the old driver might be interfering somehow. I'd try in Windows 7 to right-click or double-click on the device and see if you get an "update driver" option, which I recall having to do here in Windows XP when I first started using these newer USB chips. I wouldn't want you to send back a cart only to find that the USB chip works here, so let's be sure.
Dran
Both the cables I've tried looks pretty clean and I can't see any dirt in the port. But it might be a driver problem. I'll try to connect the cart to a friends Windows PC tonight and see how that goes.
Dran
I tried on my friends pc (5-6 year old Dell laptop with windows 7) and had no trouble connecting the cart. Seems Harmony and my Macs just dont like each other very much. At least now I have the cart running in pal mode so i can use it. Its cool to have my atari back in action after many years thanks! chesterbr
A bit late on this one, but it worked on my mac Mac (OS X Mavericks 10.9.2, Late 2011 MBP) after installing drivers from here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm I downloaded the 2.2.18, x64 .dmg, and ran the "FTDIUSBSerialDriver_10_4_10_5_10_6_10_7" installer. No restart required, just closing, reopening and connecting from the Harmony software and it recognized the cart.
