moycon
Bah....tired of ranting. Plus at this point you're just nit-picking. Lack of cross platform MMOs on consoles as a gripe?...really?

Lord Helmet
I pre-ordered the PS4 and the Xbox One. I'm not too keen on them including the Kinect as I rarely use the one I have now, it's not a huge deal to me as I probably will use it some just like I did with the older unit. Every now and again it's quite fun to play around with. Also using the Kinect isn't mandatory. Most people are forgetting that the thing can be disabled, MS has stated this is true of the new unit as well and if it's anything like the current Kinect...easily. You just have to like bennybingo pointed out, choose to do it. I'd heard you can disable it...but can you physically unplug it from the unit? Will the XBone function without it plugged in? moycon
I'd heard you can disable it...but can you physically unplug it from the unit? Will the XBone function without it plugged in? That I don't know. The way some people post they already have an Xbox One sitting in their living room (and it sucks ass, and spies on you, and forces you to watch ads, and is always connected to the internet, and is DLC only), those people might can tell you. Unfortunately I'm not one of the lucky ones to have gotten an Xbox One or a PS4 yet.

Gregory DG
As I'm watching that Kinect video where the guy says how it can read your heart rate, facial expressions, brainwaves, whatever, I couldn't help but think of this quote (as corny as it is written.) "Let us redefine progress to mean that just because we CAN do a thing it does not necessarily follow that we MUST do that thing." - Federation President, Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country Yeah, enjoy being spied on Xbox One owners. That camera is one of the reasons I didn't buy the original Kinect. And if it's now a required peripheral... Guess it'll never be in my home.
Jinks
Gdg has it right. Get the word out people. Be very aware of wth your rights are for privacy and knowing the consequences of signing off on your rights. It will affect you and has been affecting everyone not just the sheeple that are dumb enough to not care and it is not a political right left thing its your exsistance as an individual. Heck look at all the people that are on facebook.. That pretty much sums up society.

moycon
Because Microsoft would never spy on you! That was at government request. People are foolish if they haven't realize that the government has been able to do this for many years and does. If you're raising a stink about the Xbox One and carrying around a Smart Phone or even a cell phone, or using a PC connected to the internet you really need to take a step back and think. That said, I heard the top secret FBI project, codename "40 year old ball scratcher" is getting funded soon. There is no shame in living off the grid guys
JamesD
All this bitching was started because of stuff Microsoft themselves said they were going to do. You seem to have lost sight of that. As for the spying... what the govt is doing is illegal and it should be stopped.
moycon
what the govt is doing is illegal and it should be stopped. Agreed. Remember what I said...No shame. Send me your snail mail addy, I have a code we can use to communicate.
Emehr
People are foolish if they haven't realize that the government has been able to do this for many years and does. Most people realize this. Some just decided not to stick their heads in the sand and make their voices heard. Mocking them accomplishes nothing. At the same time, complaining about it on a classic video game website also does nothing. But at least it raises awareness so that makes it the more productive of the two options.
moycon
Some just decided not to stick their heads in the sand Head in the sand? I dunno, I personally kind of of like it when bombers, terrorists, child molesters, killers, etc.... are taken out of society based on their actions. You may disagree and that's your right. Nothing Snowden said recently surprised me. If he'd had come forward 3 years ago, I would have said the same thing, although maybe because I already knew the facts. He is no hero in my eyes, he just overstated the obvious. All that said. Kinect / PSEye is the least of your worries if that's what you're really worried about! In my opinion threads like this are just old guys trying to justify why they are bowing out of the latest gen of video game consoles. Bilnick
I am surprised no one has had the same reaction to the camera on the Wii U controller. When the controller is in the charge stand it is positioned perfectly to look into my living room. Who knows what it has seen and heard since November! I hope Nintendo puts a kill switch on the camera and microphone on future Wii U units.

I dunno, I personally kind of of like it when bombers, terrorists, child molesters, killers, etc.... are taken out of society based on their actions. You may disagree and that's your right. You're absolutely correct. I completely disagree that bombers, terrorists, child molesters, killers, etc. should be taken out of society. That was sarcasm by the way. You are one of those "I would gladly give up my rights so I can play Halo" guys. How did you feel when the TSA decided to do away with full body scanners or allow small knives onboard? Probably made you really nervous, right? With all of those terrorists running about? Hey, if you're going to make a completely baseless, over-the-top, and ridiculous assumption of me I can do the same, right? Have fun mocking people who give a crap about their rights too, if that floats your boat. It certainly doesn't look as foolish as "old guys trying to justify why they are bowing out of the latest gen of video game consoles". Nope, not at all. Enjoy your Halo.

What Snowden has so far revealed has surprised me. Government spying on citizens... no surprise. But corporations walking hand-in-hand with the govt. did surprise me. Now knowing that MS, Skype, AOL, Facebook, phone companies, and many, many others FREELY gave away personal information without court order or without cause or without due process is incredible to me. But enough from me..... we're all here to talk gaming, not politics and anything the govt does is perfectly okay and justified (I typed that last in case they are reading this).
Schizophretard
Yep I agree. And you know a cell phone is always on as well. Just because the screen blacks out don't think "they" aren't listening to you, and don't get me started on those digital alarm clocks we all have next to our beds. Back to the game consoles, even though you can disable your Kinect and connection to the internet, they have ways around that as well. Every Xbox One will include a little sliding door on the side so the carrier pigeon can get you data back to them!!. PS4 and Wii U are the same way. Except on the Wii U is not a carrier pigeon it's a koopa. I tell you, we live in scary times!! Fight the system!! Fight them with your wallets folks!! I don't know about digital alarm clocks and my experience with them is very limited but it is true that cell phones can be remotely turned on. If a company makes or has made a cell phone that can't be remotely turned on then that would be a good alternative. If a company makes or has made a video game console that doesn't have a camera and microphone with biometric technology built into it then that would also be a good alternative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0G1fNjK9SXg Anyway, No one has found carrier pigeons in Microsoft Windows but built-in back doors have been found. It isn't a stretch to assume that they would also put in similar back doors in the XBOX 180. If Kinect can only be disabled through software then the only way people know it is disabled is because Microsoft says so. This is the same company that thinks that "always online" and "24 hour check-in" are two different things when they are effectively the same. So, when they say that Kinect can be disabled that could mean that it is only disabled for the users but not for them. It definitely doesn't mean that Microsoft went out of their way to prevent themselves from having the capabilities to remotely re-enabling it. If so, then it would be a first for them. When people have privacy concerns and ask,"Can Kinect be unplugged?" and Microsoft answers,"Yes, it can be disabled." then that is a no. As long as it is hard wired into the console containing Windows software there is no guarantee that it can't be remotely accessed from a low powered state. Like cell phones, the only way to be sure is to unplug it from its power source. People only plugging it in when using it would be like only hooking up the XBOX 180 to the internet once a day for a 24 hour check-in. Instead of always online it is effectively always plugged in and potentially always watching. Cell phones are one thing but Kinect is like bringing biometric technology from airports into your living room. There is no reason to look for carrier pigeons in the XBOX 180 when we already know that it has Microsoft software in it. I would rather have the carrier pigeons over a HAL 9000 running on Microsoft software. I'm struggling to think of a worse combination of hardware and software that can be placed in a living room. I agree with fighting them with our wallets though.

Corporations working with the government without a court order or warrant doesn't totally surprise me since I could see the government telling someone like Microsoft they better comply unless they want another antitrust inquiry.
