Bump.

Is there a build of this game floating around anywhere? I'd really like to see it. The catalog has a picture of Space Invaders with the caption "Take a trip down nostalgia lane to the retro arcade games that you know and love with these two titles from Taito. Taito Memories includes Super Space Invader [sic], Qix, Bubble Bobble and Cadash. Old school meets new with the added feature of multiplayer capability on the Nokia N-Gage game deck, as well as weird new sound effects and faster game-play."

If we knew it was in a catalog, and we have a screenshot, then surely the game must be playable, no?

Not always the case.If you look at things like the Atari Jaguar Supplement here in the UK released by Edge, which Atari paid for, the screens for Tomb Raider etc were nothing but 'mock-up's' done to generate interest and magazine was told they were just that. Then you've other classic cases on the 8 Bit formats like ZX Spectrum Nemesis and Toki screens just generated for the press and going back to the Atari hardware DataBytes adverts for Adam Caveman, which looked great, but nothing playable ever been found, so are suspected to be mock-ups as well.
Advertising material booked/planned months in advance, not uncommon for marketing to ask for some 'material' (ie screens) to be knocked up just for advertising purposes, even if coding on game proper had barely started, if at all.

IGN posted a couple of youtube videos showing Bubble Bobble from Taito Memories for N-Gage.

Also, I remember seeing empty 'pre-order' Taito Memories game boxes on display at Electronics Boutique just before the N-Gage died at retail.

And that, my friends, is why it wasn't released. That's in about the same state Puzzle Bobble was released, so I think they learned from their mistake. It's a damn shame, because had these games run well, they would be excellent additions to the N-Gage library.

Yep! Absolutely. This game was definitely supposed to be released, and it was on the release calendar for a while before getting canned.

The game is also featured in the advertising/promo supplement 'Handheld revolution:everything you need to know about the Nokia N-Gage game deck, given away free with Edge, back in the day.Full list of games showcased:

Tomb Raider/Tony Hawk's/Pandemonium/Red Faction/MtoGP/Virtua Tennis/Super Monkey Ball/Sonic N/Splinter Cell/Rayman 3/Taito Memories/Puyo pop/Puzzle Bobble VS/Marcel Desaily Pro Soccer and MLB Slam!

Edge were also suggesting Chase HQ, New Zealand Story and Operation Wolf as ideal games to feature on a 2nd volume.

Feature also detailed Nokia's talks with Capcom and Namco and were were told not to be surprised to see Ridge racer and Resident Evil on the N-Gage 1 day....
