A while ago someone was looking for MagicFM on floppy. I just ran across a MagicFM auction on ebay that includes a 3.5" floppy, 5.25" floppy, and a 99/4A to PC serial cable. Nice package. It would be nice if the auction had a "but it now".

Well, if Matthew is in the position I was in a few weeks ago, downloading it won't help getting MFM onto the TI unless he has a means of getting it there. I guess it's time to pay it forward - Matthew if this is your situation, I'll send you a disk.

BTW - Those auctions are our friend 'Cantstopclicking' - he's been pretty busy as of late, but if you can catch the auction, you can get the cable as well.

I don't need it, just throwing it out there in case someone else does. I remember someone else posting a while ago that they needed a MFM disk for the 99/4A side. Maybe you RobertLM78?

Yep - 'twas me :). 'Mad Hatter' helped me out ;).

For those that do need a disk image of MFM, click here.

You're right. I forgot to mention that I used a little XModem terminal copied from some old magazine to "boot" MFM on the TI: using that I was able to transfer MFM onto a floppy, than started using it.

BTW, I wrote an (Italian, sorry) post about the entire procedure here: http://www.ti99iuc.it/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=81

So if I understand the post correctly (had to use google translate, so I might have missed some details):

You found the source for a short XMODEM transfer program in assembler for the TI, you typed that into a terminal emulater on the PC side (or copy pasted, or whatever) and loaded it into the editor in E/A by loading the text file through the serial interface.

I must say, that's fuckin' brilliant sir, welll done :). Would you mind translating your post and putting it on here as well? I think it could be tremendously valuable for anyone looking for a way to transfer programs for the PC to the TI... should be a "getting started with real hardware" kind of tutorial.

*edit* oh, and of course, if you can, post the source of the assembler program on here as well :).

Bargainmodem

Wayne Stith wrote this program and this is an extract from his article published in MICROpendium (October 1989):

The program published here is a stopgap measure designed to give the new user a functional terminal emulator, which includes an Xmodem routine. It will serve just long enough for the user to download one of the popular terminal emulators from a BBS or network. You must have a cartridge, which will load a DIS/FIX 80 file, such as the Editor/Assembler, Mini Memory cartridges, or the Extended Basic cartridge running FunnelWeb.

I should finish coding this and give it a whirl - even though I no longer need it. (After getting MFM there was no need to finish it :))

For those of you that would like the BARGAIN MODEM source in a nice text format (as opposed to trying to translate the MICROPENDIUM listing :P), click here (complements of Jacques ;)).
