There also the original 4 pre 4a monitor which was a tv minus the tuner control.

Interestingly enough, the /4 as sold in Japan in 1980 has the same monitor as the later /4A monitor, but with Japanese text for the various controls. I found one for sale in California about ten years ago. . .

I was actually surprised that no one noticed that one of the PEBs for sale on eBay this week was the Control Data version. It even had the CD Flex Cable and 32K cards in it. I snagged it, so I now have an almost complete CD system (just missing the CD- branded Disk Controller and RS-232 cards).

And it arrived from the West Coast already. . .and excellent packing too, so no damage to anything.

Personally, I wish Canada was treated better by both eBay and the USA sellers. There so many nice things which are not available all because both sides hate dealing with the Great White North.

What is going on with Canuckistan and eBay?  Actually, North North America is the only country outside of the US I will ship because it has been so easy compared to other countries.

As a dual Canadian/US citizen, I can vouch that I have always treated myself very well...

Huh.  I always knew there was something hinky about you.  Well, at least you will not be upset this year when Canada, for the 31st year in a row, does not win the Stanley Cup.

Once Wayne Gretzky moved to LA Kings it was officially over for Canadian Hockey.

Well at least we have curling still. The Yankees will never steal that from us Canucks.

They won it the last time I actually watched a hockey game. Sounds about right 😁

I watched curling when I was a teenager in Colorado  Thprings, Colorado (as it said on a Bill the Cat T-shirt).  There were regular practices at the Curling Club, attached to one Olympic training rink.

In adulthood, I was a Midwesterner, yadda hey. Curling was a can't-miss event on TV at work.  There are curling clubs dotted up and down around the Great Lakes. I'm sure there was some friendly cross-border competition. We might be divided into Midwest and Great White North, but Curling is a common sport.

I still don't really see the point of importing stones from Scotland to encourage them to slip over the ice, but I can't look away!  Long live Curling!

P.S. for those not sure: one person first pushes the rock, then another "sweeps" the ice to make a slippery path for it to follow into the scoring circle. You can bump the other team's stone.

It's both calming and exciting when I watch. The stone, inexorably, slows down.  My tranquility increases.

(Incidentally, my ancestors immigrated through Nova Scotia and settled in the Upper Peninsula.)

I once did some exploratory work on a smooth scrolling curling game for the TI-99/4A. This was the planned field.

Edit: I think I stopped when I couldn't figure out how the player would aim the stone without being able to see the stones at the other end at the same time.

Splitscreen, maybe?

I don't think I've ever seen a curling game...

I played a good one on mobile. Of course the longer screen helps. But it did like a preview fast scroll up when you are aiming. Similar to how some golf course games do when lining up a shot showing you the fairway ahead of you.

The v9938/58 had feature to allow bit scrolling up but never was used on the ti99 but I think the f18a could do it well also.

How about a mini-screen to the side? With the full view.

Or display a vector toward the other stone.

Wondering how you imagined to play at sweeping?

Thoughts?

I see it before. But the cost is crazy. I thought about it for one of my silver/4a as the power supply is getting super hot and causes freezing after 48 hours running non stop, but comes to almost $150 cad with currency conversion, duty, taxes, shipping. I can buy a whole unused /4a console for that price.

I think that's the one that someone came onto these forums and discussed a few months ago?

Yes, I remember seeing it mentioned here. There is GitHub link it looks like from the photo pasted here but it's too blurry to make out, plus it's produced by oshpark so most likely can order the PCboard yourself and the parts list from GitHub and build one yourself and might end up a bit cheaper overall if you making a few together.

Here's the link:  https://github.com/dabonetn/ti99psu-replacement/tree/main

Here's the original: https://github.com/jonn-reenthused/TI99-4A-dc-power-board

I just ordered a few PCBs.  If it looks good and feasible, I will make them available.  Also, will be willing to send a blank PCB or three to our friends to the North in exchange for future beers.

Sounds good to me, would not mind a PCboard up here in great white north, I will throw some beers into the snowbank to kept them chilled. Any thoughts on what type of regulated 12v DC power brick to use it with as this only supplies the clean 5v and -5v you still need an external steady 12v DC power to run it.

But it would be nice to see a usb c version that runs off a a good 2amp charger.

There's a decent chance you could swap out the barrel jack for a USB-C PD Trigger Module configured for 12V, as long as it can supply enough current. For example: https://www.amazon.com/Trigger-Adjustable-Voltage-Module-Default/dp/B0B687B7G8/

I'm the one that did the power supplies. The amount I'm charging is what I feel my time is worth to me, and that's also why I post the entire project to github to share it, if someone else's time isn't worth as much to them.

(I've got around $22 dollars in cost per board because of multiple revisions.)

As for the USB-C input, since this is a VERY stripped down psu, it requires the +12v to be +12v, or it could damage things.

The +12 is routed straight to the TI motherboard, and the PSU generates the +5 and -5 rails.

All the usbc pd boards that I saw have a value you set or buy them at, but if that voltage doesn't exist on the usb c power supply you are using, they then pass the next lower voltage.
