calamari
Hi, It's been a while! How is everyone doing? I've been busy with school and work. My ISP also decided it will shut down next month, so I found another (that's hopefully even better!) and my pages have all been copied over. If you go to the old pages (at least for now) there will be a link to my new homepage. I also took the opportunity to reorganize my webpage directory tree, so the links will be a little different than before. Homepage: http://lilly.csoft.net/~jeffryj 5200BAS page: http://lilly.csoft.net/~jeffryj/5200bas/5200bas.html Radial Pong: http://lilly.csoft.net/~jeffryj/projects/radial.html I am considering registering a domain name in case this happens again, any suggestions for getting one cheap? calamari
Albert
I am considering registering a domain name in case this happens again, any suggestions for getting one cheap? We've had good luck with DirectNIC, and they charge $15 for a year. Thanks for the new URLs, I'll make sure any links on AtariAge are updated appropriately. ..Al
calamari
That DirectNIC looks good.. I'll have to do that sometime Thanks, calamari
calamari
Hi, I've moved servers again, but my kidsquid.com addresses are still going, so this move will only affect those using http://lilly.csoft.net/~jeffryj/ Simply replace that with http://kidsquid.com/ and you're all set. calamari
MausBoy
I'm really wondering how 5200BAS compares to Batari BASIC. It would be cool to port some of my games to the 5200 so I'll have to find out.
Jess Ragan
I can't seem to download 5200 BASIC. When's it going to be available? JR
+batari
I can't seem to download 5200 BASIC. When's it going to be available? JR 5200bas isn't being developed anymore, but I downloaded it some time ago to see how it was designed. I'll post the .zip here. Unfortunately the source has never been released, so it only helped me a little bit. 5200bas.zip
PacMan
I downloaded bas5200 and played with it for a while, great fun with quick results. Calamari should really let someone else take over to maintain it or maybe even develop it further. It's a shame to let something like this die. /P

Please, send me an e-mail next time! 5200BAS is still available on my website, here: http://kidsquid.com/old/compilers/5200bas/5200bas.html Due to this thread, I've put the source there as well, but you aren't going to like it! I wrote it in QuickBasic Extended, and I had to hack around some MS-DOS limitations. The code is a huge mess. My personal preference would be to see the compiler ported to Java or ANSI C. I started on a Java port some time ago, but I cannot find it now. Check the included README for more information about the source code release. So, good luck, and enjoy! Another possibility might be to use FreeBASIC, which is very similar to QuickBASIC, but has more commands and is more Windows-friendly. That way, you could clean up the code without having to do an extensive rewrite for Java or C. http://sourceforge.net/projects/fbc/ http://www.freebasic.net/ Michael Rideout
