jblenkle
So if you lost by that score, your actual score would be a negative 28...I do poorly at football video games... CGQuarterly
Yes, technically that would be true. If you lose, you'll have a negative score. Watch some gameplay vids of Tecmo Bowl on YouTube to get some pointers. You'll do fine.
+asponge
63 - 6 => 57 I nearly had a shutout but messed up in the last 15 seconds of the game and let one slip by. I did however block the extra point.

DonPedro
49ers 28 Browns 17 I've no idea how to play on defence in this game and I only utilized 1 offensive play during the whole game but it was fun. Need to learn to play this properly. It reminds me of another simple yet very playable sports game - Sensible Soccer.

DonPedro
I checked some online resources for this game and it looks like there's more depth to it than I thought at first. Started to mix my plays and cycle through receivers and after few games I was able to win by 28 points, against Cleveland again. 49ers 45 - Browns
+asponge
This is a bit late for this round, but I'll put my two cents in for future reference. The key to defense is to first attempt to find a pattern in the plays the opponent team is running. Often teams will run the same plays on a particular down. If you guess the play correctly your defense will stop the offense automatically. Second, find the fastest defensive player on the team. You can cycle through the player you control with the A button before the ball is snapped. The fastest player for San Fransisco, for example, is Ronnie Lott. This will help you stop the offense even when you don't call the right defensive play. Third, watch where the quarterback is passing the ball. You'll see an X in front of the intended receiver. If you can get in front of this guy then you'll intercept the ball. This is another area where the fast defensive player comes in handy. Obviously the more interceptions you get the more opportunities you'll have to score. Finally, notice there is a difference between a diving tackle (using the B button) and simply grabbing the guy by running into him. If you just grab another player there is a chance that he can break the tackle. There is also a chance that another offensive teammate can come and knock you off. Whenever possible use the diving tackle to immediately bring your opponent down.
