doctorclu
Version 8 : Miner 2049er (Vol I) * Corrected the framing of the game field * Sped the opening music up just a little bit * Changed the sprite so the main character is seen torso up in the cannon rather than just the hat/helmet. It is without a doubt better than the original and much easier to play. I'm now making a new hack based on your version, which I think is much faster and fun to play. It is in the process of being finalized and will be released soon here on the 2600 forum hack. This is definitely one of the hardest games to hack when it comes to getting good results on Bob's sprites, the main character. I opted for a stick character like Pitfall Harry. alfredtdk
A few more changes, I think we can get close to the good old man of the boxes and labels of the 2600.

alfredtdk
Miner 2049er - Old Man (NTSC) Tell me if it's good. I tried to get as close as possible to the beautiful arts. I also opted for brown mines and white stairs. With poetic license when Bob is hurled from the cannon and misses, we only see his hat return. I tried to make this a bit more comical. A stickman version is also available. Miner 2049er - Old Man.bin Miner 2049er - Stickman.bin Edited November 27, 2022 by alfredtdk

alfredtdk
Miner 2049er - Old Man (PAL) The PAL version is ready. It took a while because the colors in the conversion follow the NTSC standard and it was necessary to follow the PAL standard for a good result. Hope everyone likes it. doctorclu
Trying it out, game flows along pretty good. Being a fan of Miner 2049er on the Atari 800 I miss the jump sound, and the splat sound. That is the first thing I noticed. Otherwise pretty fun.

Bomberman94
Mmmh checked again - platforms are more like red (a bit brown) and ladders light orange or so?

The *beak* is actually his bushy beard. lol. It was the best I could do. Colors (I compared with German package - and yes I know real game looks different) should be dark red platform and brownish ladders. The platform colors originally on the 2600 are purple, I took the liberty of choosing a color that approximates the real mines, the clay brown, but I can release a version in this pattern if you want. Please explain when man should be upside down - when he falls down and dies, he doesn’t flip upside down You will only fall head over heels in the third stage if you make the mistake of taking too much weight in the cannon. When thrown by the cannon with the extra weights you will automatically go into the stratosphere and return to the ground upside down. 🤔 4 hours ago, Bomberman94 said: Here‘s a picture of real Atari and CRT: Nice.👍 4 hours ago, Bomberman94 said:
Bomberman94
😂sorry about the bushy beard - now I see it with other eyes (I believe you it is difficult within the existing capabilities!). Yes, it would be wonderful to have the colors like on the (Atari 2600) package (your choice of colors are nice, too 🤗).

You are absolutely right, it is common sometimes not to recognize Atari sprites because of their limitations. I myself did not recognize things in childhood and that I only learned to recognize after adulting, for example, in the game Q'bert I strongly believed that the serpent was actually a bouncing cadaverous head, lol.

I think red(ish) platforms and light orange ladders might be really nice. I like your color changed version but e.g. the white ladders could profit from a bit more „colorful“ tone. Changed numeric font and now more readable on screen. As for the fastest counter I think we would need some help from Thomas Jentzsch who analyzed the source code, it was thanks to Thomas who made Bounty Bob's acceleration possible. 16 hours ago, Bomberman94 said: And: maybe the „FV old man“ could have the colors of the package - maybe as intended from the „photos“? Making the timer run faster would be quite tricky (the code is really bad). But it is easy to change its initial value to 888, 777 and so on. The initial number can be found at offset $1bbf.
alfredtdk
Miner 2049er - Reduced Time (NTSC / PAL) There was no acceleration, instead the timer now has its time reduced by half. It is possible to finish all three levels in that time. Now it's pure adrenaline. Thanks Thomas.
