There is a C64 plug & play? Never heard of - wasn't sure if serious or not? If so how many games on and what is going rate?

It was released in 2004. Like the Flashback 2 and 2+, it was a recreation of the original hardware, not just emulation, meaning you could hack it to use a keyboard and peripherals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C64_Direct-to-TV

I've had the "future" discussion with them. You need to consider what people actually remember and what's available to license. Also, anything Nintendo is not even a possibility, so it's not even worth bringing up. I'd say depending upon how these do, the most likely next products will be based around C-64 and Amiga. T

Sign me up, I would kill to play Earl Weaver Baseball again…please EA let it out!

OK, I have a small bit of news, which I guess I'll have to repeat on various threads here. First off, the final game mixes are not finalized yet. Second, I'm not allowed to reveal any of the titles, but both the Intellivision and ColecoVision Flashbacks will have some surprises on them in the mix of games. So, while the lists can't be made publicly available yet, it has gotten a bit more interesting. I should have units shortly before their retail availability and will make sure I get my reviews up as soon as possible. I'll obviously look at it from several angles, including how everything works with original hardware and vice-versa.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the info - would be interested in one of these one day but not if it costs an arm and a leg. With only 30 games and so many missing, a future C64 Flashback would be awesome. Time will tell.

If they ever did, it would be great to see them license that C64 on a chip from a few years ago and go that route.

Honestly, they'd use their own custom chips and a software emulation layer like on their other products. The only system on a chip they have is their own, and that's for the Sega Genesis. The C64 DTV is wonderful, but is probably overkill for the intended market of these products. The C64 on a chip was actually used in a few other plug and play products not related to the C-64, but I'm not sure who holds the rights to it now. I have a feeling the future of these devices is going to be similar to what Hyperkin is doing with the RetroN 5 and that's have a customized Android implementation. It's cheap, gives good results, and is very flexible in terms of what you can do with it. In fact, I'm not sure if they ever released it officially, but I've tested an AtGames Sega Genesis handheld that utilizes more traditional emulation rather than their system on a chip, and that does interesting things like save states and rewinding play.

Soooo, possibly a licensed game(s) included? Curveball!

Ok, so after having a few margaritas I'm having a Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure "whoa" kind of moment....or for the modern kids a "sudden clarity Clarence" moment

...sooo, if this Flashback actually does really well and reintroduces a significant number of people to the INTV scene, some of which may take the next step by seeking out original consoles and games, could this lead to a measurable spike in demand for original items and/or drive up prices of vintage stock? Will this holiday season be the prime time to unload games at great prices? Is there a way to monitor the baseline traffic at Atariage and look for a huge spike in web traffic? Will the collector base get a huge bump? Am I reading way too much into this? :)

I'm more afraid that it won't sell at all and AtGames will give up on anything older than NES for the rest of my life. Pre-Order NOW people!

My guess is they will release them on the plug n play system under the names "Adventure" and "Minotaur" like they did on Intellivision Lives.

Techno Source also got around this particular license by using "Crown of Kings" for their Intellivision 10 2nd Edition, so there is definitely hope that it will show up as an Intellivision Flashback built-in game!
