Ok, who is man enough to open up their flashback and show us the guts. Also open a controller so we can see if it is the clear mylar sheets with printed circuitry?

This is how the overlays were in the box. See the white strap, they are supposed to be in there.

Overlays. Notice the minotaur one has wrinkles.

It has a protective film on them that CAN be removed.

I am not willing to open either the controller or the unit.

It's so weird seeing Word Fun in an Intellivision Inc box. I think my heart skipped a beat as I briefly felt like a lost variant surfaced :woozy:

As I mentioned a while ago in this thread, when I borrowed a prototype Flashback controller from Intellivision Productions and disassembled it to figure out the differences between it and the original, I discovered that they both use the same Mylar circuit matrix design, although the way the matrix connects to the wires is completely different.

Here is a picture showing the Flashback matrix on the left, the original on the right.

I just tried connecting my Intellivision Flashback controller to my Intellivision II. They are not compatible (which is alright, but I gave it a shot anyways :)].

Someone has said that they built an adapter, but hasn't yet published what the circuit is. We might have to wait for the circuit until after Oct 1st.

I think it might have been nurmix that build the adapter. And it sound like it was just changing the pin locations. But I could be wrong.

Yes, it was me. Search this thread and you will see several posts about it. I have made an adapter. They work fine with it. It basically comes down to mis-wired pins.

Here is a picture of my prototype adapter. Note, to use the Flashback controller on an Intellivision II with my adapter, I have to use a joystick extension since the plugs are recessed on the Inty II, and the D-sub connectors I am using have the screw hole "ears" that get in the way of plugging it into the Inty II.

I will publish the details here shortly. Right now I just have my pen and paper notes / sketches of the changes needed. I have to put something together that's a little more 'readable' before I post it here.

Do you know if they do another one next year. Will they make them compatible will out the adapter ?

That's their intention if there is a next one.

As Bill said, it's also my understanding that they will make them compatible. Whether that's a running change to this version of the Flashback - which would mean some sort of software change to the emulator to work with the "correct" controllers - or in a v2, I don't yet know. Nor does Keith Robinson / Intellivision Productions.

Like the 2600 FB controllers, these should have been plug-in compatible in the first place. Why are they not?

Mistake? Miscommunication between AT Games and the Chinese factory?

Of the 9 wires in the Flashback controllers, only 1 was the same as the original controller.
