ricnight1977
Still trying to complete my 7800 collection, and I was just wondering what NTSC region games work on a PAL console. I know Water Ski works, as I have a copy. But does Rampage, Tank Command, Kung Fu Master work etc? Finding it hard to track down a PAL copy of Donkey Kong, does an NTSC copy work in a PAL machine? Also, can anyone supply a list of NTSC 7800 games that actually work in PAL. As always, any help is appreciated. Many thanks!
+Mitch
I dug up a post I made 10 years ago and found some info: NTSC only carts on a PAL 7800 Tank Command - workedWater Ski - WorkedRampage - Worked but had some flickerSummer Games - hung after a secondWinter Games - hung after a secondTouchdown Football - Worked but had some flicker I believe Robotron hangs after a second as well. Mayhem
Almost all of the NTSC only games sadly don't work on a PAL 7800. I'm sure there are previous threads detailing what games work well and what have more serious issues.
Magic Knight
See this informative previous thread - a lot of games do work on Pal machines, however you usually have some glitch or another to contend with. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/65424-ntsc-games-that-work-on-pal-machines/ Pressing select after powerup on some seems to work also on some games to make them work for example. ricnight1977
Wonderful. Many thanks for your replies. Kung Fu Master was released on PAL, but after 5 years of searching I still can't find a copy. Does anyone know if the NTSC version of Kung Fu Master works on PAL machines? Thanks for your time. ricnight1977
Oh, interesting to read that Donkey Kong works on PAL, but plays fast. One wonders exactly how fast though! Does it ruin the game?
YANDMAN
There is a pal donkey kong on ebay right now or at least there was a couple days ago
Andromeda Stardust
Is it possible for PAL 7800 to run on NTSC? Probably not due to the encryption keys I suspect.
Mayhem
No, you can't run any PAL 7800 titles on a NTSC 7800 before of the lack of being signed.
tep392
Oh, interesting to read that Donkey Kong works on PAL, but plays fast. One wonders exactly how fast though! Does it ruin the game? That doesn't sound right. If the PAL cart is played on an NTSC console, it should run 20% faster, while the NTSC cart will run about 20% slower on a PAL console. I've disassembled both versions and understand how the animation and music speed is controlled.
