SSG
Is there a replacement or substitute for a Commodore Plus 4 TED chip out there? Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/217821-commodore-plus4-ted-chips/ Share on other sites
JamesD
You can try asking on Plus4World to be sure but I think most of the sources for parts have run out of TEDs.I know I've seen the question asked over there. If you find a machine that got damaged physically (broken keyboard, etc...) but internals are intact, that would be a likely donor candidate.I picked up 2 like new Plus/4's pretty cheap in box off ebay so unless you have a rare rubber key model or some nostalgia for a particular one they aren't worth too much effort to fix.At least not at this time. JamesD
There are a couple loose Plus/4 machines on ebay with no power supply and I think some yellowing to the keys. They might be good donor candidates if the auction doesn't go too high. carlsson
Supposedly there were two FPGA-ish TED projects, but neither have been finished. Or rather, one of them was a full Commodore 16 FPGA project. I believe the 7501/8501 CPU is a bit easier to substitute, or find spare, unused parts. I don't know if the TED is more complex than most other custom chips, but given that they break so easily, someone should already have set about to produce replacment chips if they were relatively easy to engineer. I suppose you have to find a spare TED somewhere and keep your thumbs crossed that new parts eventually will be made available.
