Boulder Dash (R) For Intellivision

Recommended Posts

$1000 in advertising to sell 5 more copies? No thanks.

The people who are interested in this stuff generally know where to find it. Sure there are always a few in the dark, but it's not like there are thousands of people who still play their Intellivisions regularly, and would gladly pony up $50-100 for a new game, that have no idea about any of this.

An event like PRGE sees tens of thousands of people attend, people who specifically are into retro gaming, and Intellivision homebrew sits unsold on Sunday.

Not thousands, but certainly hundreds. D2K broke 500 copies. We have customers that have never heard of Atari Age. However, I agree that Intellivision is a niche of a niche.....the only way sales are possible is finding people online.

I think Freewheel just meant that thousands attend PRGE :)

I realize that....if thousands attend PRGE and there is little interest, it is probably safe to say that thousands of collectors probably aren't interested in new Intellivision games. However, there are probably hundreds that would buy new games. However, that customer base is probably mostly located online.

And they probably know how to find new homebrew games. I just don't see a huge market of people sitting around, wishing for new Intellivision games, that seriously don't know how to find these. In the sense that a massive marketing blitz is going to drum up enough sales to justify paying for said marketing.

I agree. There are a trickle of people who find us through various reviews, articles and blogs. Paying for advertising for such a niche product is probably foolish.

Reddit has r/INTV and r/Intellivision, but both are essentially ghost towns. r/retrogaming gets much more traffic. There's also r/retrogameswap.

reddit.com/r/retrogaming has 28,000+ subscribers so there should be a few Intellivision or Boulderdash fans that may not have heard of it.

For what it is worth, it's pretty easy to trace how I got here... for Boulder Dash it was because a local guy let me borrow the A8 cart for a couple weeks and I liked it enough that I decided I wanted one for my own and then when I saw the cost of it on Ebay, I decided to look into what other systems it came out for and see how those ports might have compared... the rest is documented here. DK Arcade is a different story... I saw the Video Game Critic's review of it back when he published it and I made note that it looked like something I would want to have. That I was able to play the ROM of the Intelligentvision release in the time between sold me. So then, when I went to pick up Boulder Dash and I saw the price of DK Arcade, I figured what the heck. Glad to have both now.

Now that I have looked pretty thoroughly through the history of modern Intellivision releases, I have found three more I am interested in, two of them seem to pretty hard to find now, but at least one of them is at Naber Hood Games, so they will probably be hearing from me again soon.

Cheers!

Just a final reminder that this Monday, August 15th, 2016 at 23:59 Hrs California time, sales of Boulder Dash® Vol. 1 for Intellivision will cease. Purchases after that time will be refunded.

There will be no leftover stock. There will be no 'fire sale'. If you want a rare collectible, this is your last chance.

Buy it at:

Since the title is "... Vol. 1", will "... Vol 2" start to be sold on Tuesday and this is why the first volume is going away?

Volume 1 is the official name of the original release of Boulder Dash® that came out in 1984. There are many sequels. The name 'Volume 1' simply differentiates it from the sequels. There is no 'Volume 2'. Really.

This is the last chance to get the game.

I believe that it will make excellent trade bait for rare games in the near future.

Don't miss out on this game!

I will stop filling orders at 11:59:59 pm Pacific on Monday 8/15/2016. orders that come in after that will be refunded.

If you are unsure what time that is in your part of the world go to:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

Use Sacramento as the place and you will see what time it is here right now. Then you should be able to gage how much time is left.

But what if I live in Sacramento, what is the calculation?
