PFG 9000
Thank you. I love how this HSC thread makes me put some time in with my Lynx. Playing Shanhai really brings back some great memories.
roadrunner
I think I'm gonna have to score this game by completed game - best time. It's possible to get a lower time but not clearing all the tiles by running out of moves.Anyone who can't solve the puzzle i'll give you 1 point for playing. roadrunner
I think 38 tiles is how many you removed from the puzzle.
jblenkle
I have a question about scoring this on "completed" games...I don't think this is completely fair as I don't think every puzzle can be completed. It depends entirely on what tiles you get and which are exposed in any given game. By luck of the layout you can never play some of them in some instances. Can't it be scored by this criteria? 1. Completed game (ordered by fastest completed game) 2. Most tiles cleared (in case of tie, ordered by fastest time clearing those tiles) This way everyone would have a chance to earn points based on how many tiles they clear rather than only getting one point if you can't complete the puzzle. jblenkle
No, I only had 38 tiles left...that screen shows how many you have left...the Best Scores screen shows how many tiles you cleared....so I cleared 106... I think 38 tiles is how many you removed from the puzzle. Edited December 9, 2013 by jblenkle

That is a good idea. I'll score it this way. I thought more of us would be able to complete the game. The tile layout is random, some puzzles do feel impossible though. jblenkle
Shanghai - 144 completed Didn't think it was possible, but I finally beat this @&%*& game!!! Wow! That was wild...I just played again and got down to two tiles in 14:24. The final two tiles were stacked on top of each other. PFG 9000
Yeah, the tile layout is random, and you might get lucky in one game with an "easier" layout than in the next game. But you won't really know until you lose, because there's no way to know whether matching tiles are stacked or buried until pretty late in the game. Really it's not meant to be played in 20-some minutes. I believe in traditional mah-jong, games could take months as the players would ponder every possible move and the likelihood that said move would result in a draw.
