MegaSTe value

Recommended Posts

So, I've got a MegaSTe that needs a new home, looked through completed auctions worldwide, but couldn't find a recent sale.

Any idea what the "going rate" is for one? I hate to put 'make offer' type postings in the marketplace threads.

Details:

4 meg ram

1/.44 floppy (someone had 'squared off' the eject button, not hideous, but not beautiful)

Seagate ST157N hard drive

Some yellowing of the keyboard.

TOS 2.06

Thanks!

Oh, man... I want that thing in a bad way! Alas, having just been forced into purchasing a new vehicle yesterday, I don't see it happening.

Somebody please give that thing a good home and not some collector who's going to put it away, either. Someone who's going to use the heck out of it... I would! :D

Same here! MEGA STe is the best ST. That said they are a bit pricey. I would love a MEGA STe one day.

I'm just curious, how does the value of a German MSTe compare to that of a US MSTe? I got a German MSTe in exchange for some electronic design services I performed, and while it's in excellent shape, it still means I've got a PAL unit with a funky keyboard layout in NTSC land. Luckily I have a Sony PVM that syncs to a PAL video signal without any problem (I just had to make a cable for it), but I imagine it'd be harder to sell than a US MSTe if I ever needed to.

Last I remember, the EU models sold for less than 1/2 what we might pay for a USA model over here. But, that was what they sold for in EU... I'd have no idea how to price an EU model here in the US.

I kinda thought that might be the case. The guy that gave it to me tried to talk up the value because it was in such great shape, but I figure he must not have paid that much for it if he was wanting to give the thing to me rather than just pay me in cash (he offered me the choice between this one and a US MSTe that was supposedly in awful shape). It does have English ROMs in it, by the way, so I don't know if that helps. It seems to display in 60Hz most of the time unless a piece of software requests 50Hz, but of course the RF modulator and the Composite video signal are still PAL encoded, so it's useless on an actual TV here.

No worries about that. With so many games on the ST switching to 50Hz anyway, a NTSC and PAL (50hz anyway) compatible display is needed.

Best to use a monitor. So I'd say you made out with the clean machine and English TOS.

Okay, well, thanks for making me feel better about it, haha. I doubt I'll ever sell the thing (I mean, I haven't really even gotten used to using it yet), but realizing pretty much everyone else would also have to use it with a monitor makes it not so bad.

EDIT: I wouldn't mind having an actual US keyboard if I could find one at a decent price or if I could trade my German keyboard for it. As it sits, there's one key that doesn't do anything with a US rom, the Z and Y are swapped, and there are several keys that print symbols that don't match up.

I really wanted one again but got burned on the last sale...which that seller then cost me the option of picking up the mint in box non-yellowed one from Germany which went for 100 euros (yeah crazy low price!!!) because I didn't even know if I would ever see my money again.

I have given up ever finding a nice one and only sold mine as it wasn't a repair I could get sorted here in the UK at the time.

To be honest I only really want it for coding (HD essential!) and games playing (in 16mhz mode).
