will 2600 roms work on Prosystem emulator?

Does the backwards compatibility of the 7800 to the 2600 apply to emulators, or not??[yet at least] Why or why not??

I'd say no (but I'm not an expert). AFAIK Prosystem emulators read *.a78 files only.

The Google cache of the Prosystem Emulator web page mentions nothing about 2600 compatibility. The emulator author has his hands full just reading and running one particular video game system. There are emulators that can do multiple systems but each must have dedicated effort to interpreting those systems separately. Think of the 2600 and 7800 as different languages and the emulator is an interpreter. For each language he must translate the vocal, gestural and cultural differences into something an English speaker can understand.

Did not know that, though I'm sure Stella is still the superior emu for the 2600.

I'll have to check out EMU7800 sometime.

I like EMU7800 on my Windows Phone; I bought a MOGA controller just for it. If you want to try it out he has a Silverlight/web version http://emu7800.sourceforge.net/EMU7800.SL.html and that has both 7800 and 2600, as well as homebrew ROMS.

 

EMU7800 does have one thing that Stella lacks: lightgun emulation.

Yep, I use it to play the 2600 version of Sentinel.  Shooting Gallery won't work since it's too much of a prototype.

Yeah, seems like all open source projects are on GitHub which makes it hard to find the "Download for Windows" button...b/c they assume everyone knows how to rebuild source code.
