BurritoBeans
Hello Lately I fixed an old Apple II+ that my uncle gave me last year. I've been playing with it, and noticed there is a Hayes Micromodem 2 card in it. I have all the parts necessary for it, read all the manual stuff, and was wondering - Are there any running BBSes for an Apple II? I was interested in testing the modem and wanted to try something new, so I would like to know if one still exists, and what I would need for it/what it is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks -BurritoBeans Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/227340-apple-ii-bbs-that-is-still-running/ Share on other sites
Osgeld
they come and go, but none of them that I am aware of are still on dialup, telnet is the way to go nowdays Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/227340-apple-ii-bbs-that-is-still-running/#findComment-3025459 Share on other sites
John_L
Agreed, There are a spattering of dial up BBS's around, generally for fairly odd, non generic purposes. Most BBS's folded when the Internet went mainstream. BBS's had alot of drawbacks that the Internet wiped out. However, quite a few didn't want to call it quits, so some have continued making it available through Telnet over the internet. Back in the the day, at the height of the BBSs in the late 80's early 90's, I had about 12 to choose from that were a local call. Despite their drawbacks, it was all we had back then, and it was a great resource for exchanging shareware software and information. As Osgeld suggested, if you're serious about running a BBS, then you can set it up via Telnet through your internet connection and you'll A) be much more accessible, and B) you won't have to spring for a dedicated land line. Bodyshots
For BBS and old software, there are some good copy and pass along items here. https://twitter.com/vintagepc/media Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/227340-apple-ii-bbs-that-is-still-running/#findComment-3026654 Share on other sites
Prosystemsearch
For the most part, I am with these guys. One is more likely to find still-active commodore 64/ commodore 128 BBS's than Apple ii BBS's (unless, maybe, its made specifically for the IIGS) Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/227340-apple-ii-bbs-that-is-still-running/#findComment-3138130 Share on other sites
