slip81
I went with the black one, as I'm not a big fan of the design on the MM one. I tend to like just plain consoles. It seemed to me though that Nintendo kinda just rolled out this new revision without much press. I didn't even know there was a new model until a week ago when I looked into getting a 3DS. I kinda lucked out timing wise this being my first 3DS. I'm glad I waited and didn't get one last year when the price dropped on the XL. Not only is messages sort of quiet, the reasoning behind the naming scheme is just a mystery to me.

The XL was $200 at launch and was still $200 last time I checked just a week prior to the New 3DS XL release. Man, I feel sorry for anyone who paid full price for one just before the New 3DS XL dropped.

Austin
I received a New 3DS XL in the mail today. Haven't gotten much time to play around with it, but I can confirm that the 3D is considerably better than it was on prior 3DS models. Looking forward to firing up A Link Between Worlds later tonight when I get some time to myself.
+wood_jl
I have to say, about this: I'm a skeptic. I can be negative. I fully-expected this to be a ruse. Having said that, I am (or have become, over a period that spans *decades*) a Nintendo fan. While I made fun of the original Gameboy, I still had fun playing games like Alleyway and Super RC Pro Am, to the point that I bought myself one of those dinosaurs. Next-up, I thought the Game Boy Color was a must-have. After that, the Game Boy Advance SP was the ass-kicker, and when the "New Brighter Screen" (model AGS-101) came out, it was a dream-come-true for portable gaming. Nintendo has held my attention in the portable-gaming department, ever since, with so many winnners. What's next? Probably the the Nintendo DS Lite; I don't instinctively buy every system. The DS Lite's screens were an order of magnitude better than the original DS. What next? Well, the DSi (original model) dropped Gameboy Advance support (major "Fuck You"), but the DSi XL had large, beautiful screens that drew me back in. By now, I'm into "XL" and don't give a shit about "standard" size DS units, so the 3DS XL was the next logical choice. Then there's this new upstart, the "New" 3DS XL. What's in a name? Well, considering Nintendo (in recent times), it's a stupid name. It is. Check. But it's an EXCELLENT unit! I have NO experience with the "new C-stick" and the "new Z-buttons." But the screen is FREAKIN' AWESOME. The 3D is much more easily-visible. The unit also boots and launches games noticibly quicker. The "New 3DS" is a winner. The name is a loser, as is the Wii U name. What's wrong with Nintendo's marketing department? "Wii 2" would have been clear. "3DS XL 2" would have been clear. Fortunately, the "New 3DS XL" rocks. I've never had a hard time selling my old Nintendo handhelds on Ebay, particularly beacause I take care of them and they sell as "like new." But even if they hadn't, I'm impressed with the 3D of the "New" 3DS XL. It's a winner.
NE146
I'm still holding out hope that there are more MM to come in the months ahead, and am playing the game on my standard XL for now. Welp.. hope (and patience) wins out and all Gamestops got a restock today. Was able to snag 2 Majoras Mask New 3DS's. About time too since time was getting short.. I gave myself until the end of March before I went with red or black. Edited March 25, 2015 by NE146

Also nice to know the going price for the console on Amazon/eBay is now less than 2x retail as opposed to when it peaked at 3x ($600)... +SpiceWare
But the screen is FREAKIN' AWESOME. The 3D is much more easily-visible. Finally got around to checking one out today. Agreed, the new screen is really impressive. I could see getting one to replace my 3DS XL, though not for a while. I decided to keep my S2000 instead of getting a new car, so had a new top installed and some interior work (leather repairs, restuff the driver seat, etc) done over the weekend. And tomorrow the 16 year old furnance/blower in my home is getting replaced. Between the house and car, 6K left my bank account.
Unbeliever
I picked up the red one (sexy) last week. Since I had some sort of brain hemorrhage in December and sold off my entire 3DS with games, the XL size and "new" 3DS features have earned my respect. Namely due to the fact that the screen does stay steady. What throws me off is when you look away from the screen then back again, there's a microsecond (okay, half a second) that it re acquires your "eyes" looking at it. And sometimes in a darkened (not completely dark) room, it goes out of focus since it can't "see" your eyes. Everything really pops now. Why didn't I get an XL when they came out first for the older model? Beats me. Why did I sell off my entire 3DS collection? Again, beats me. Some stupid idea of going with a console that really didn't appeal to me. Well, now I'm back in Nintendo's corner, and look forward to collecting the games I like for the new 3DS XL. And yes, the name sucks. I would have been more pleased with "3DS XL 2".... Edited June 22, 2015 by wolfpaw1966
Andromeda Stardust
Wow dude. Sold off your entire collection, eh? I think every gamer has made this mistake once or twice in his/her lifetime...

Unfortunately, yes. I think this is my second time doing this type of move....so hopefully it's the LAST time and I can settle in, buy the games for the 3DS I enjoy, and have a nice system for years to come. I mean, how many titles are available for the 3DS, including the previous DS games?
