I have a black console that suddenly stopped outputting sound. Any recommendations how to proceed with repairs. OLD_CS1, this is your old console that you had done some work on trying to get s-video working. Not saying your work caused this, but maybe you'll have some special insight.

I went down this road but with trying to get component Video working from a TMS9929ANL, got nowhere with it unfortunately, but may try again at some point.

The point is that i did mess around with the outputs from the 5 pin din to accomodate R-Y, B-Y, Luminance/Sync and Audio out, so maybe You may have changed the pinout?

Other than that swap another sound chip in if possible.

Yeah, I was playing with getting S-Video but found the color spaces are different enough not to work. When I was done the audio was still working (I even played some games before boxing it up.) I still want to ensure that I did not do anything that would kill the sound chip.

I had a similar problem. For me, the problem was some of the pins connecting the A/V out DIN-5 to the circuit board had worked themselves loose after years of plugging and pulling the video connector. This was fixed by re-soldering the pins to the circuit board.
