The levels reset after 256 back to level 1 and I think that it granted me another life around 19,700 and again at 25,000ish. I actually had five lives left at around 27K but the joy that is Candy Cove zapped four lives. Got back around to Candy Cove where my run ended. I thought for sure that I was going to hit red!!! I played from around 6K with 9 lives and didn't lose another until about 13K so I would have had one or two banked. I KNOW that I had 6 lives going into 19K ... then suddenly I looked over and had 7. I know that happened and it wasn't a sleep deprived moment. Either a banked life coming through or a very welcome glitch ! The level jumping back to 1 caught me off guard ... I wasn't expecting that at all! Thinking about it, though, 256 is a magical number in the computing world. Perhaps Dz can shed some light on why that happens ... Indeed, the level value is stored as a zero-based, unsigned integer in an 8-bit byte. What that means is that it only supports values from 0x0000 to 0xFFFF, corresponding to the levels 1 through 256. There is no look-up table, colour-coding, roll-over counters, nor any special code to handle the level overflow; it just rolls over from 0xFFFF back to 0x0000, as binary values are wont to do. I toyed with the idea of extending the value by adding a "roll-over counter" like I did for the score. Then, I figured that whoever rolls over the level display has earned his place in the world, and deserves to see his level go back to one as a trophy of his accomplishment. Congratulations! Wtf?? trim.5AE079AD-47B5-49B8-AEA5-81F42FB7D065.MOV Roh-rohw! That's a nasty bug. It is a race condition that occurs not as rarely as I'd like. It typically happens at the end of the Boss Level, and it has bitten many of the other veterans too. Sorry about that. The good news is that I think I found the source of that bug and a few others while working on Liduario's "Scary-Ghost" edition. However, the not-so-good news is that I never got around to merging those final fixes into the main line, so there isn't a fixed ROM yet. Started around 9 and ended at 3:00 am or so with a break or two. And yes, didn't bother with few extra candies on most levels except for always going for perfects on icicle lane, snowflake garden, freezer burn and twisted toyland.
