+DZ-Jay
I see lots of activity since yesterday! first score 2525 Welcome back, Ranger Elf grips03! Let's see if you can beat your score from last year. Right now you seem to be sort of rusty, so get cracking! New High 15,574 15K.png Fantastic! You are closing in on that World Record. Liduario should not get too comfortable... Hi there, I managed to surpass the 1000K barrier. Slowly I am getting my groove back. Good luck to all! Oscar G. 1015 Carol_OG_Dec11.png Hmmm... You mean the "1K" barrier, right? Nonetheless, it's a great improvement. I'm sure you'll jump back into the Top Elite Master Elves room in no time! My first day.. one year later. I love this game... a lot ! Welcome back, Grand Master Scalpel! That's an awesome initial score, but you're still a far cry from your peak in 2012 of 5,692 points! You've just shot right into Top Elite Ranger Elves block! Great job! Good going, everyone. Two weeks into the championship and the competition is heating up. We see veterans coming back as well as all new rookie Elves joining our ranks. I've updated the official leaderboard and the top post with the latest rankings and stats. Stay alert, there we still have some more surprises to announce. And to all you rookies out there--don't fret! Your day may come yet. -dZ.

BalloonFighter
My goodness, this game sure can be brutal! Right when I think I'm going to beat my high score, the ghost takes back all the presents while the snowman finishes me off! Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how I can better avoid the snowman besides using my magical snowflakes only when needed?
ChefPepper
I can't get into any decent groove tonight, but I have been playing. No point in updating the leaderboard on my account.

+DZ-Jay
My, my! I see some nice scores there! My Score for the day! - 2039 Also First for The Twelve Days Of Christmas Carol !! Congratulations, Darrin9999, you have indeed achieved the very first 12 Days Of Christmas Carol of the season. That's great! I hope you continue playing for a while and defend your place, now that Scalpel has arrived to give you a challenge! Sorry about my crappy score submission. Gotta get 12 days. Anywho i finally got my ultimate intellivision flashback working. Software gave me all kinds of grief. That is why i havent been able to play but a second the past couple days. I am on my way to walmart to get double sided sticky foam to stick the ultimate flashback boards down so i can put it back together and get my muther effin carol gaming on. Here is a sneak peak before i post the tutorial i have been making for itimage.jpgimage.jpg That's awesome (the hardware, not the score, nor the fact that you had trouble with it)! Once you get everything put together, why not take a video of your gameplay while you try again to save Christmas? Fushek and Liduario are really impressive !!!!! Congrats super guys ! Indeed. You didn't do such a bad job yourself. I noticed that you just jumped to the head of the Top Elite Ranger Elves! Good ! Play again and don't stop until minimum 5 K ! ^^ I need challenge but 14 K or 15 K is really too far For a veteran like you two, 5K should be a minimum. Although I must say that you guys should push your limits, and at least try to get close to 10K. How about some Yellow scores? I've updated the official leaderboard and the first post with the latest rankings and stats. Cheers! -dZ.
+DZ-Jay
My goodness, this game sure can be brutal! Right when I think I'm going to beat my high score, the ghost takes back all the presents while the snowman finishes me off! Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how I can better avoid the snowman besides using my magical snowflakes only when needed? Hi, BalloonFighter. Here are some threads where tips have been provided: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/205725-cvw-tips-tricks-countdown/ http://atariage.com/forums/topic/219214-2nd-annual-cvw-competition-december/page-27?do=findComment&comment=2894974 http://atariage.com/forums/topic/205725-cvw-tips-tricks-countdown/?p=2881155 And of course, the tips in the instruction booklet: Magical snowflakes stun the Ghost and confuse the Snowman. Use them strategically. The Ghost won't hurt Carol, but he will take his presents back if given the chance. Watch out! Avoid the Evil Snowman at all costs. He freezes Carol in her tracks, requiring Santa's help. Carol zig-zags faster than anyone. Use her nimbleness to wriggle away from enemies and to throw them off her trail. The Ghost's attention wanders almost as much as he does. Try to pick up presents when he's distracted. The Snowman’s howl warns you that he is about to enter the cave. Make sure to move away from the side tunnels quickly, so as not to get in his way. Magical snowflakes have a tendency to re-generate when you need them the most. Is there any particular part of the game or character with which you are having trouble? The game may seem very hard at first, but once you play it for a while you'll start noticing the enemy's patterns of behaviour. Below is some general information on the game and enemies for your convenience: Objective: The primary object of the game is to pick up the eight presents on each level. The Magical Snowflakes and Bon-Bon Candy give you extra points, but are not necessary to complete the game. Magical Snowflakes: The Snowflakes have magical powers that stun your enemies, and they come in handy when being chased. Each level is designed with a specific flow in mind, though there are many ways to traverse it. The Magical Snowflakes are typically placed in strategic positions to allow you to enter and exit dangerous areas, so use them wisely. Evil Snowman: The Snowman will always follow you, but eating a Magical Snowflake will cause him to shy away in fear for a few seconds. This gives you enough time to run away. He is also slower when turning, so a good zig-zagging around can help you get escape, and sometimes even confuse him, sending him off on the wrong direction! The Ghost Of Christmas Presents: The Ghost mostly gets in the way and tries to steal your presents. However, you can easily avoid him: He will just randomly patrol from present to present unless you pick up one; then he gets alerted and will try to go straight to that spot. Just make sure you run away in a different direction and he will not bother you. Also, he will only be alerted while moving, so try to pick up presents while he is distracted, or when he stops to look around. The Ghost also tends to forget where he was going once in a while, and continue his normal present patrol. Other than that, have fun saving Christmas!

BalloonFighter
Thanks, DZ-Jay! I have already read through the instruction book to get a better understanding of the game. The real problem I'm having is trying to get the snowman off my tail by performing a zig-zag move, so I'm going to see if I can make that happen. Well, I'm off to go make some hot cocoa and start playing the game again. Be right back!
+DZ-Jay
Well, it's my birthday today and I decided I was going to play a bit of Christmas Carol. Unfortunately, the cartridge I picked up happen to be the very old, first edition of the game with that critical bug that crashes the game when you reach the "boss" level. No worries, I figured I'm so rusty, I probably won't make it there... Except I did. <- click to enlarge So much for that. Oh well. How did Carol know...? So, I thought to use my Cuttle Cart 3 to play. I always keep a copy of the latest version for testing in my CC3 to play when the mood hits me. I plugged the CC3 in and... <- click to enlarge It's Liduario's special edition from CvW 2013!!! Well, it's my birthday and I am determined, so with apologies to Liduario, I fired it up. A couple of tries... <- click to enlarge A few Perfect Levels... <- click to enlarge And... what's this...? I don't recognize this level! <- click to enlarge Finally, I got a respectable score. Yay! All in all, it was a good afternoon. I'll load the regular Christmas Carol game into my CC3 later and play some more. I'm going to post my scores up on the leaderboard and challenge you all to beat it (well, not the Top Elite Grand Master Elves!). Let's call this The Birthday Challenge: Impress Santa Claus by beating my scores by the end of the championship and he will reward you. Happy birthday to me! -dZ. ChefPepper
Happy b-day dz! I wish I could beat your score, but I'm going to need a lot more practice. Speaking of which, didn't beat my high score, but did play today. Might play more tonight, but just in case I'm out past midnight, here's my score so far today.
LidLikesIntellivision
I wish you a happy birth day and many more years enjoying life with health. And it's a great day to play Christmas Carol too, especially when you get Carol's happy birthday message. And I'm very happy you chose the Scary-Ghost to play in this very special day. You've made another wonderful game, I will never forget. Edited December 14, 2014 by LidLikesIntellivision
First Spear
I think it is too late for 2014, but what about having an age range for scores for a future competition? I have a 7-year-old that is interested (I got him 'hooked' with the story line) but there's no way he is going to make it on the boards with these Giants of Christmas playing.
