traindriver69
hi all I want to run a .bas file called T1020.BAS to try and workout what is wrong with my atari 1020 printer,I have a 1050 disc drive and a SIO2PC cable.but that only recognizes ATR files did try converting the .BAS to ATR with a windows program called text 2 atr and put the program on a disc but could not get it to run on the 800. or if some one could tell me how to get the listing for this program so that i could type it in manually that would be an option. many thanks in advance
Bryan
I'm assuming you're using APE.. An ATR is a disk image which will contain it own files. To use a individual files, you'll need to set up a directory mirror. The other alternative is to create a fresh ATR and drop the file into it. It needs to be on a .ATR (drop it on an .ATR) to access it. There's a PC program called 'makeatr.exe'. You 'drop' a file onto an ATR using that program. You run makeatr, then 'OPEN' an .ATR on your SIO2PC. Then (INSTERT) a file. Close the .ATR and exit makeatr. Now you have your T1020.BAS on an .ATR you can access on your real computer with SIO2PC and the .ATR you made. You have to have a .ATR to open and use. Here's 'makeatr.' Unzip it on your PC and then run it like above. You may have to 'install' it first, probably. You also have to have a DOS .ATR to be able to LOAD a BASIC file. I guess you can do DOS, put the T1020.BAS on a DOS .ATR. makeATR_v0.06.zip Edited December 26, 2014 by russg
+bf2k+
On an 800, you will also need a Basic cartridge.

As a matter of fact, if the .ATR in question is open in APE/ASPEQT, it will not open in makeatr. At least, that's what would happen in Win. 8.1. It makes sense, you can't alter an .ATR while it is open in an emulator or APE/ASPEQT. Edited December 27, 2014 by russg
Level42
I've always been baffled by the fact that APE And AspeQT -can- create a new disk image, but -can not- handle dragging and dropping files in that freshly created image.... Using MakeATR works fine but it's a cumbersome and slow detour.

Kyle22
By the way if you don't have the Basic cartridge for the 800 you can always use Turbo Basic. You can't use normal Turbo-BASIC on an 800 (without Incognito). It uses RAM under the OS. There is a special version of TBASIC that does work on an 800, but you have less free RAM to use. I think it's the same TBASIC that works with Sparta 3.2.

According to this post there are 4 versions of TurboBASIC, I doubt if TurboBASIC 3.2Q will work with an 800 since SpartaDOS 3.2 is XL/XE only. +Larry
BTW Frost Basic T32Q will work with early (small) versions of MyDos such as as 3.07. I haven't tried it on an 800, but I don't see why that would make any difference. Larry
