Which of these IIgs systems should I keep?

Recommended Posts

I have two IIgs systems (monitor and computer) and only want to keep one. I'm torn on which to keep.. One has been retrobrited and one is a Woz "limited edition". Both are ROM1 and work great.

Any suggestions? Which color is more accurate?

Thanks!

The Woz unit is more common than the non-Woz unit. I've never personally researched it, but I keep hearing that from many sources. from the little difference I see in the photo, the right unit might be more color-accurate even though it was retrobrighted.

Which to keep? That is entirely up to you.. If forced I'd keep the non-woz unit.

The first 50,000 units were Woz editions, the other million units were non-Woz, but I have to agree at times the Woz edition does seem almost as common, if not more so. Maybe people held onto them more often thinking they'd add in value. IIGSes are so common in general though, I actually struggle just to sell mine for $20-40. A rarer IIGS to hold onto would be the IIGS upgrade model and rarer still would be the Cortland model (seen below), especially those in a IIGS case (most seem to be in a IIe case). Of course the rarest is the Mark Twain IIGS (ROM-04) which I've never seen in person.

I would pop the cases open and look at the motherboards. The only Woz edition IIgs I've ever seen up close had everything surface-mounted on the board, making it difficult to conduct a repair if needed. My old ROM 01 GS at least had a few of the important chips socketed and only most of it surface mount. ;)
