I'm a PS4 newb with questions / observations

So I got a PS4 for Christmas and I'm enjoying the graphics and controller but there are some things on this console compared to the PS3 that I don't grasp and am hoping someone can answer.

First of all, where are the avatars I bought on PSN? I tried to change my avatar and when I looked at the list of available options, they were all generic ones from PSN, not any of the ones I had bought on my PS3.

Luckily if I go back to my PS3, change avatar, and then launch my PS4 the new avatar shows up after a minute or two, but I find it odd I don't see what I bought. And stranger still, any trophies I unlock on my PS4 do show up if I check my profile on my PS3 so obviously there is some kind of synching / communication there, why not with my avatars?

Next, the PS4 doesn't view photos? If I stick holiday snaps on a USB stick and put it in my PS3, I can look at those pictures just fine. There is no such "photo" option on PS4. Seems a basic thing, why is it not there?

Also, exitting out of a game is fine, I hit the PS button. But the game is still running, I happened to notice if I try running a new game the PS4 tells me I need to close the previous first. If I hit the Options button only then do I see a "close application" and a "eject disc" selection. While this is a bit to get used to, I am really confused with the YouTube app. If I watch my YouTube stuff and decide I'm done and my wife switches to her account and launches YouTube, it's still my videos. We finally figured out a workaround. If we hold the PS button a few seconds, we can see options similar to if we wanted to exit a game. We can close YouTube this way, but not by just hitting Options. Very weird.

Finally, on occasion my PS3 has frozen, like playing Fallout 3 or certain image-heavy websites in the web browser. No problem, I just hold down the power button for five seconds, it does the "three beeps" and shuts off. Then I can reboot the PS3. Does the PS4 work the same way? I must confess the PS4 power button is hard to find, I only fluked out hitting it the first time.

Anyway, those are my questions, I am hoping a PS4 expert can help.

You won't see PS3 avatars on PS4. PS3 and PS4 are not compatible. If you have avatars you like on PS3, change your avatar on your PS3 and it will be global ie. PS4,PS3 and Vita.

Next, the PS4 doesn't view photos?

No pics (no movie files yet). They released an iphone\droid app called playmemories that you use to upload your phone or pc pics. Lame.

Download the app, sign in with your PSN account, drag the pics on your PC to the MyCollections folder and they will show up on your PS4.

Also, exitting out of a game is fine, I hit the PS button. But the game is still running

When your in the game: Hold the PS button down and select close app. Done.

When your in the dashboard and the game is running: Press the option button on the controller and select close app. Done.

Finally, on occasion my PS3 has frozen, like playing Fallout 3 or certain image-heavy websites in the web browser.

It's the same as the PS3. Power button is on top, just remember power on top. I haven't had my PS4 freeze yet and I've been playing it a lot since launch but if it ever does that's what I would do, just hold the button down for a few sec's.

You get used to it. It took me a little longer to figure out how the Xbox One does stuff too. They have different dashboards from last generation so there's a small period of getting used to it.
