Mad-Mike Posted October 22 Share Posted October 22 Not today but I bought this last week. I spent about 4 1/2 weeks looking at various Atari VCS on evil bay to decide which one I wanted to get. Decided I missed my old Heavy Sixer I used to have a lot - so I'll have one again, and I'll probably be bonding with this one off the bat because I plan to clean up and restore it as my second "Forever" unit. I dunno if it's a Sunnyvale or Taiwan model, but I don't really care. I like the Aesthetic of the heavy sixer. Might have to snag a copy of Indy 500 though....it comes with a Driving controller It's going to be getting rotated with the Sears light Sixer on YouTube as well. I cleaned it up both inside and out after confirming the console works! Most of the games I already had other than Basketball, Air Raiders, and Star Raiders (which I used to own CIB other than the comic) but I don't have the keypad controller anymore. Some of the joysticks works so I've added them to my 2600 controller collection. But some didn't. I ended up swapping the board from my Woody (the shell is cracked pretty badly) into the Vader as it has a way cleaner picture. It seemed there was a slight ghosting effect with the Vader. I assume possible TIA differences but IDK. It was only really noticeable with Asteroids. Went to the local game shop, spent about 30 minutes scrutinizing the rack of 2600 games because they had so few all of a sudden. I seriously though "man, that 2600+ is really taking off", so I started cherry picking from the rack, only for some nice gal there just went in back and literally haul out a ton of games and take a picture for me of what they have in back with armloads of carts brought out front. Wasn't cheap, but well worth dropping by though. My goal was to get as many as I could that I have manuals for, and Indy 500 for the driving controller I already had in the picture. my thoughts.... INDY 500 - Man, I've been missing out on this one, the Driving Controller I got with the Heavy sixer works great, so it's a new favorite of mine RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK - I figured I'd give this one another go, seriously, I like it a lot now....now it's inspiring me to design my own double-gamepad for it though (I enjoy making my own 2600 controllers sometimes such as the Wood-O Boss Red Greene BOSS Pistol Grip, or my Gemini Psychostick (Gemstik) I just modded using the tactile switch mod most people use for the CX-40) SWORDQUEST EARTHWORLD - H6R came with the manuals, map, and comic book + the page for the contest....but no cart. I'm also getting into this one more. I like RPG-ish stuff like this. BASKETBALL - My wife wanted this one so we could compete TANK PLUS - I was looking for Combat and found this instead. Another one for me and the Wife. TARGET FUN - Honestly, this fits perfectly because that's probably the pack-in for my Sears Light Sixer (which all I got was the Console for that 20 years ago for $5) BREAKOUT - I think this is the same copy I sold to buy Dragon Warrior IV a few years ago, LOL E.T. - This thing was NASTY dirty, did not work when I got it, so I popped out the PCB and gave it a REAL good cleaning with Acetone and 1000grit, as the contacts were covered in what looked like sticker goo of congealed hot fudge JOUST - Another arcade favorite of mine BARNSTORMING - had the manual, and also really missed having this one DEMON ATTACK - I've never owned this one, but I had the manual, a new game I really like, so score DIG DUG - I had this a bazillion years ago with my 4-switch Vader back in Middle School, forgot what a great game this was.....been beating the tar out of it 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/233754-what-did-you-buy-today/page/174/#findComment-5572504 Share on other sites More sharing options...
