I wonder why no one posted this already... NEAR

Recommended Posts

Well,

one can find a note to download "Near" demo at atarionline.pl, the download itself is hosted at pigwa.

http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/parties/SillyVenture,2014.12.5-7,Gdansk,Poland/8bit_demo/Agenda_-_Near_(after_party_release).zip

The authors said that this is not the final version. Anyways, it requires 128k RAM to load...

The parallax and textured rotating object (like in their "Triple Threat" demo) effects are amazing. Great demo; I need a copy too.

Yeah. What he said. The parallax sky/cityscape and the textured object are awesome.

The difference with "NEAR" is that you see things you wouldn't expect.

Actually , when I saw the demo 1st , I doubt that there was just ANTIC and GTIA used. I checked that "VBXE" was turned off in emulator ;)

Cyberpunk is an interesting prod with nice graphics and a high level presentation. But everything is "out of the box" ...

And this is the reason why I have you on ignore. I have no idea why I expanded this post. Damn me.

I hope Heaven is stupid enough (again) to discuss this topic with you.

But in the end you are right, I expect speech synthesis in every demo. So, no surprises there. Even "NEAR" had it.

(don't expect answer, back to ignore)

If you had regularly read articles on AtariOnline.pl or check AtariOnline's Facebook profile, you wouldn't be surprised :)
There was a lot, I mean A LOT of great new 8-bit Atari stuff at Silly Venture 2014 (in December), the biggest Atari-only demo-party in the world.

Some real nice parallax effects there, Cananbalt is half done for us in that first part, and the grafitti tunnel at the end is pretty amazing. Like the rotating cubes also.

One annoyance though, and something we all need to learn from - since we have modern TVs and emuation that shows more overscan than the old days, a couple of NOPs are a good idea if time allows after WSYNC when doing the colour effects to avoid the next colour appearing on the current scanline.

On the case of Silly venture Demo's, I found one called Vantage by point (think that's the name) and in Altirra newest beta you have to set memory config / power up pattern to either clear, sram of dram3 or the demo crashes...

I've left mine on sram (random)...
