ZackAttack
Just got my encore and it's having trouble displaying the file menu. Games load fine and they play without any problems. Does anyone know how to fix this? Edited January 21, 2015 by ZackAttack
cd-w
Try a different TV - it looks like it is having problems with the technique used to display the menu. Chris
Thomas Jentzsch
It looks like every 2nd row is shifted one pixel to the right. So it could be a problem with the (not 100% compatible) console too. Though this would be the 1st console having such a problem. BTW: Can you try Stellar Track or the Dark Mage/Fellowship of the Rings homebrews?
ZackAttack
Both those games seem to work fine.
Thomas Jentzsch
Interesting. I have to check the HMOVE timings. Probably on your console HMOVE behaves slightly different than on other consoles. But if possible, please try on a different TV too. BTW: What console are you using exactly?
ZackAttack
It's an Atari Jr, S.N. A1962021752. I'll see if I can try a different TV later today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be purchasing an additional 2600 and a 7800 that I can test on as well.
Thomas Jentzsch
I just checked the timings: Stellar Track and Dark Mage both trigger HMOVE at cycle 2 and 3. Harmony triggers at 3/74. 74 should work because several (modern) games hide the black bars by triggering HMOVE early. Some examples you can try: AStar (early HMOVE used for positioning the cherries) Conquest of Mars (score)
ZackAttack
Those games are fine too. Also tried the other TV. Maybe I need to reload the firmware? Not sure how to do that yet.
ZackAttack
I was able to download the eeloader in step 1 just fine. Step 2 worked fine too. I can't perform step 3 though because I can't read the menu to select the upgrade option. Also, the root menu, that has the firmware version, doesn't allow me to select anything but the top row which takes me back to the file menu. Is the menu system in the eeprom loader image or the hbios file? Perhaps I need to send this cartridge back
Thomas Jentzsch
So you cannot move the cursor in the menu? Neither with the joystick nor the SELECT switch? Perhaps you are right and your cart is defect.
ZackAttack
Quick update on this. I picked up another 2600 and a 7800 off craigslist today. The menu is correct on both of these consoles. So either the first console has faulty hardware or there is a compatibility issue. I'm going to see if we can't figure out exactly what causes it. Thomas Jentzsch
Thanks for the update. I wonder what exactly the problem with your console and the menu code is.
