Apps that defined your personal ST/STe/TT/Falcon use

Gonna mention something that I hadn't though of before, but danged

if it wasn' something I used almost every single day.

All the archivers....from ARC, through LZH and ZIP, ZIPjr, especially

STZip (the graphical one). These tiny little apps made my Atari

computing life so much easier. I'd always install ZIP as the default

and when TOS 2.06 came out, I went hog wild, installing defaults for

every file format I could lay my hands on. Awesome stuff.

PS Especially as a SysOp of a BBS! :)

PSS Sorry if someone had already mentioned these.

My first Happy upgrade too bad the cart didn't have the RTC option installed.

Leisure Suit Larry what game this is! LOL

ST Xformer and PC Ditto are my first emulators!

Chip's Challenge!

All the Lemmings games!

I was broke when I had my first ST so I had 2 CD-ROM's full of Public Domain software that keep me busy for some time. :D

Obsession

Dungeon Master

Llamatron

Nethack

Llamazap

Asteroidia

Civilization

Pirates!

Bombsquad on the Falcon

Bubble Bobble on the Falcon

Frantic by Dave Munsie

I did a lot of work in AtariWorks on the Falcon. I also used Marcel to write on the STe. I used to love going to Barnes and Noble every month to get ST Format and the accompanying disk.

As a kid I used the Atari STE mainly for playing games. Games I remember playing at the time was:

Sierra games: Police Quest, Colonel's Bequest, Codename: ICEMAN, Space Quest III.

Lucasfilm games: Zak McKracken, Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Super Cars 2

Ikari Warriors

Down Fall

Exterminator

Double Dragon

Air to Air Combat

Metro-Cross

Llamatron

Revenge of the Mutant Camels

Vroom

Horror Zombies from the Crypt

Turbo Cup

Blood Money

Blue Angels

Total Eclipse

and of course many more :) I find it a bit difficult to make a short list, to be honest.

Better late than never, maybe? In order of appearance and changing use of Ataris through the years, if I can recall correctly, these defined my Ataris use:

The reason I was happily gifted my Atari ST as a Christmas present, as a gaming machine:

Xenon

Speedball

Xenon II

Kult

Blood Money

Speedball 2

Turrican

Turrican II

Sensible Soccer

As a music machine:

Quartet

TCB Tracker

Stereo Master

Breakthru

Replay 16

Cubase

As a word processer / DTP 'pro' use...:

ICD Pro Utilities

Calamus

Atari Works

Papyrus

NVDI

ST Hardware (worth a mention, because it changed the way I used my Atari):

ICD Link II

For the Falcon as a music machine:

Cubase Audio with FDI

Clarity 16

Talking about Fastcopy Pro - it was one of rare which worked not well for me. Years later we found the reason - it had some bad timings, and worked not well with some floppy drives.

In any case, I can freely say that that program is overhyped. There is plenty of copy, format SW for Atari ST, what can do at least same as Fcopy, and some are better in copy - like Acopy later versions.

Sensible Soccer - probably one the most addictive games ever made.

unlike the OP - i never found this "hard as heck" - we use to have mini-leagues and

i had one killer move that always worked

goalie - to right-fullback straight short pass down the touchline to winger, who takes ball and runs parallel to touchline.

once midway between halfway line and goal line swings curling cross toward far post

attacker slides in at far post (Lineker-like) to tap in easy goal

Neochrome - first paint program I used

Omikron Basic

GFA-Basic

ZX81 Emulator

Pac-Mania

Gauntlet II

HomePage Penguin, HTML-Help, A-Z - because I developed them

spareTIME - organizer, the developer gave me the sources so I could modernize the app

Light of Adamas - advanced web browser

ST Writer Elite

qed

Atari Works

Pure C

Smurf

MagiC - not an app, but a very good o.s. back in the day.

Not many games, because I always owned a console (first NES, then Mega Drive)

I'm going to have to try your technique ! Boy do I suck at this game, but it is so addicting.

it's been a long long time...probably last time i played the game was on a winders PC - maybe 95?

after my ST had long since been mothballed

i'm pretty sure the mirror version of that move would work also - ie down left-hand side of pitch - but i never got the hang of left-side play.

there was a second version of the move that worked - after you've scored twice in one game with it - oppos would get wise to it...

so i'd then make a short pass out from goalie to defender in "D" on edge of my own 18-yard box....oppo then thinks you're doing something else

so then you promply pass the ball out the winger on the halfway line - and then finish the move as before

it's still all a little "route one" - but it's slick and effective
