Opry99er
Need a tile. Tree, single tile, black on medium green. My attempts have looked terrible on my map. I had to eliminate the beautiful tree Karsten made for me from my map because I could not achieve textural richness with only two black on green tiles (see videos on Beryl thread). Anyway, i have several nice new texture tiles and the map is starting to come together, but I need something that LOOKS like a tree that fits in with the map theme. My attempts have looked like blocky, out of place Christmas trees. It does not have to be a full TREE, just a pattern that gives the "impression" of a tree-like canopy from any angle. I know 8x8 and two colors is very limiting, and that is why I am asking for help. It will not be used to make a big blocky forest, but rather sparsely positioned among the other shrubbery and texture tiles that now inhabit my map. If you would like a copy of my .mag file for context while you work, I would be happy to provide one via PM. It is really starting to take shape now, and quest items are in place, as are a few other interesting things I won't divulge quite yet. Let me know if you're interested in helping... As I said, Id be happy to message someone a copy of my development file in Magellan so you can play with it. Thanks

Opry99er
Howie, I REALLY like that first one! It's not blocky or cumbersome and it works! The others are also great. I have two tiles that are very similar to that already, so I might replace one of them with yours. THANKS!

Opry99er
Hey Howie, hope you don't mind... I added ONE foreground pixel to your tree. I think it helps with integration into the map.... Let me know what you think, I'm not COMPLETELY set on it. Before: After: In context:

Opry99er
Hey, thank you so much, schmitzi! Ill plug those in tonight and see how they work in context. Seeing them in blue is TOUGH to really get perspective. Have you downloaded Magellan? It is a map editor for the TI-99 designed by Codex and maintained/updated over the years by retroclouds, sometimes99er, and now Rasmus? It has become one truly amazing piece of software... That's where I have been doing my tile design and map implementation. If you do not have it, run... don't walk... to the development section and download it NOW. Sooooo cool.
+Schmitzi
Hi Opry99er, no, I did not find the Magellan, so I just did it with Chris Schneider´s CharDef-99. This is the reason for "blue" (But I am not sure wether this fits so good into the map, but of course. give´m a try.... Maybe you have a link for me to the Magellan ? Thanks, and go on Ralf

+Schmitzi
yep, thanks. Did not find that because AA does not search in subforums............. Here is the link to the latest version. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/161356-magellan/?p=3165647 /EDIT/ I have WIN7-x64, but because of only JAVA-32bit installed I have installed Magellan-32bit. Hope thats right. Edited March 26, 2015 by schmitzi
Opry99er
I think it is. Give it a go... It is a BLAST creating maps for the TI... Even if you are not yet a game programmer. (I don't know if you are or not, but if you AREN'T, I bet we can turn you into one) Magellan is very simple to use... For your tile creator, select a character code from the character set box on the left, then select colors by right clicking for background color and left clicking for foreground. That sets that whole character set to those colors. You can then design your tiles in the 8x8 tile box on top left and it will pop up the HEX code and you can see your tile in the character set. Magellan exports to BASIC data, XB Program, assembler DATA, etc. Very intuitive and easy to use! Edited March 26, 2015 by Opry99er

+Schmitzi
Sometimes99Gamer, MosttimesB2Gamer (but some time ago) and yes, 32 or 64bit of Magellan seems to depend on the corresponding Java-version, not Windows-version
unhuman
Fun stuff. Never fancied myself an artist, but there you go. And, of course, I used GraphiCV or GraphicCV to make it. The pixel definitely helps the tree #1 in your environment. My #2 (haha) and #3 are shrubberies.
unhuman
Oh - you may want to try knocking out the top left pixel in my tree since it sometimes collides with the normal grassy areas. Makes it look a bit heavy. Or, whack the bottom right pixel in your grass.
Opry99er
Welp, I used Howie's #1 as my tree and #3 as a replacement for a shrubbery tile I had on the map already... They were similar, but swapping to that shrubbery made me happy. Sorry... Flushed #2... schmitzi, how are you liking Magellan?
+Schmitzi
schmitzi, how are you liking Magellan? Yes, looks goody and easy to handle. But please don´t wait if you want to test my trees. maybe you can take the pattern I posted here with changing to green colors ? ...as I have to work.. Opry99er
Copy that. I did test one of them out late last night. Looks pretty good!! I am out of spare tiles right now, but I might be able to free another one up tonight when i finish work on Forestia. Thanks again, friend!

Opry99er
Glad youre getting use out of it. When i begin working on my next quest world, I may commission you to help me work on some stuff. I can only pay in game credits though, as I basically work to eat these days. I have a few elements to tie up in the MENU, then I have to go back to my battle engine development... BUT!!!!! Once that is done, it is on to more map editing with a completely new color and tile pallette!
