david__schmidt
You had a carton of 3.5" controllers? That would indeed be a trick. Too bad you didn't hang on to them. They're perennial favorites when they come available, yes. Keatah
I'm not sure if I have them or not. I clearly recall someone saying they weren't worth anything. Probably trying to lowball me or something. They could be in my cache of duplicate stuff, in which case I'll pass a few off to my ebay butler for listing. I do remember purchasing a couple at $30-40 each a long time ago. david__schmidt
I don't see the attraction, personally... the machine you plug these into has approximately zero software that comes on a 3-1/2" disk. Keatah
These are for the IIgs also. And a lot of stuff was on 3.5. The Usotsuki
Superdrive means 1.44 MB... controllers and drives for that are like hen's teeth. :< Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/237291-is-this-controller-card-really-worth-300-the-35-superdrive-controller/#findComment-3219234 Share on other sites
david__schmidt
...and software for same is even more hen's teeth-like. It's simply not practical. (Not that it matters, of course...) Arbee
I bought one new-shrinkwrapped-in-box a few years ago, and then committed collector heresy by opening it and plugging it into my IIgs. This controller + a SuperDrive + System 6.0.1 lets you read 720k and 1.44M MS-DOS format floppies right in the Finder, which is quite useful for interchange with modern machines (using e.g. a USB floppy drive). Keatah
..is that so? Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/237291-is-this-controller-card-really-worth-300-the-35-superdrive-controller/#findComment-3219282 Share on other sites
david__schmidt
Yep. I personally find that more practical to do on an OS9 Mac, but I'm lucky to have some bench space to keep a few "bridge" machines up and running. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/237291-is-this-controller-card-really-worth-300-the-35-superdrive-controller/#findComment-3219323 Share on other sites
Osgeld
I just use a serial (or network) transfer with a pi like single board computer, hate floppies! I understand why they were made back in the day, why would one want to spend 300 bucks on just the controller card then rustle up an external drive or rig an internal drive yadda yadda yadda does not compute with me Edited April 15, 2015 by Osgeld Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/237291-is-this-controller-card-really-worth-300-the-35-superdrive-controller/#findComment-3219484 Share on other sites
Keatah
Topped out at just under $400.00 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/237291-is-this-controller-card-really-worth-300-the-35-superdrive-controller/#findComment-3219667 Share on other sites
Iamgroot
I don't believe it's about pratical use. Many collectors items have no pratical use, but it's rare and more than one person wants one equals A) "more than it's worth" (the pratical reply) or B) "more than you can afford, so stop whining. If you can't afford it you can't have it" (the sarcasm reply) Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/237291-is-this-controller-card-really-worth-300-the-35-superdrive-controller/#findComment-3219796 Share on other sites
