As someone else might say...

SUCCESS!!!!!

So....maybe I can try to download TELCO from Heatwave? Are there other BBS' I can telnet to? ....Or on to the next adventure??? (most likely the f18a)

:) CONGRATULATIONS! :)

Now about that F18A...

all I can tell you is GO FOR IT! ;)

My blog entry << HERE >> has a couple of links to sites with HUNDREDS of BBS's listed. Check it out.

Crud! Okay, before we go any further I need to ask you some basic questions.

1) Do you have XB2.7S or a copy of Archiver 4.04g?

2) Do you have more than one disk drive? Is so how much can you get on each one?

3) Do you have Classic 99?

I got stupid and did not consider your configuration or hardware when I sent you that zip file. Sorry.

Now there are other ways of doing it, like in Classic99, but the PC would change some of the characters of some of the file names used in Telco, then your copies files would have to be renamed after sending them, to the TI.

Another option, since you now know how to connect with your terminal program. would be to dial Heatwave instead of your computer and download it from there.

I'll be home later this evening so let me know wish route you want to go, or maybe someone else will step in before I get back.

So ... even though I can connect to BBS's, Fast Term does not have ANSI support (at least I haven't figured out how to turn it on yet?) ...so I thought I will give it another shot at getting a working version of TELCO. So let me answer your previous questions:

1.) Yes and yes.

2.) Yes, they are both 5.25" SSSD 90k.

3.) No.

Does this help? If there is a way to get a working version of TELCO on my TI that would be awesome.... I yearn for the ANSI graphics :)

Okay, I believe Heatwave has a copy of Telco on it. If it does not, let me know and I'll upload an ARC'ed copy.

So now with the program you have, go to Heatwave, find the program in the downloads section, download using Xmodem and save it as: DSK2.TELCO (make sure you have a blank formatted drive in DSK2).

It'll take a while to download, once that is done, use your ARC program on it and extract to DSK1, where you'll have a blank formatted diskette waiting for it.

I couldn't find TELCO on heatwave, but I was having some difficulty with the download section. For some reason some of the letters didn't work and others had different letters working? For example the menu only goes to K or L or something, but when I would type in S it would bring me the games download section? None of the other menus on Heatwave seemed to do this, so I think it might be an issues on the BBS end? Also don't I need to change the port settings on my lantronix to be able to download from heatwave? I know the lantronix is set right now to port 10001, but do I need to change it to port 23? I should be able to edit this right from the TI now right?

Correct, you cannot download successfully from Heatwave with your UDS-10's port set to 10001. However to set it to port 23, Telnet to the UDS-10 from your PC.

I'll check Heatwave in a few minutes (between chores around the house), if it's not there, I'll ARC up a copy and upload it to the board.

Also... Rogers Hornsby, Todd Helton, Nolan Ryan, Michael Cuddyer and Babe Ruth all in one baseball game..... well done Owen.

LOL!!! Really glad you played the game. I wasn't sure if anyone played it. :)

MadHatter told me it gets played every once in awhile, so that made me happy. If you had a chance to "Check Matchups," I used their actual career stats for the matchup algorithms... OPS and WHIP, I think... Probably the two best stats for an algorithm-based dice baseball game. :)

Congrats on your new WiFi setup!

Hey Budz,

TELCOARC is listed in section A of the downloads (UTILS). However I already made an ARC file included in this ZIP. So you can either download it from Heatwave or you own PC... once you download the attached file.

1) Download this ZIP file to your PC.

2) Take TELCO out of the ZIP file.

3) DOWNLOAD it from your PC to a blank diskette on your TI on DSK2.

4) Once downloaded loaded use option V of your XB27.S cartridge (the Archive program) to extract the contents to a BLANK diskette

in DSK1.

Awesome! I still haven't ferreted out precisely how to do the ti pc transfer (got it to work in reverse once somehow?), but that is just something I can hopefully figure out with time.

I do have another question (shocking right?): I was reading the TELCO manual you converted and it states that TELCO will try to create a TOS/CONFIG file if one doesn't already exist. My disk with TELCO on it is full 358/358. Do you think this could be what is causing the problem with it not being able to boot up? It says TELCO automatically creates this file on the first start up.

At any rate, let me finish my paper and I will take a look at all the goodies you left me :)

The ZIP I sent should already be 'trimmed down' and leave you with 91 free, that's including the TOS/CONFIG and TOS/PHONE files. :)

So figured out finally how to transfer a file (thanks to Owen also, I think I watched your video 100 times just now) ...and the file transferred to the TI DSK2 successful :)

Wahoo...

So initialized a new disk in DSK1, went into archiver from the XB 2.7 cart.... and I/O error 4....huh?

So I went back into DM and cataloged DSK2 and the TELCO file is type DIS/FIX128. Shouldn't this be an archive or something? Or maybe this is? Did I need to do something to the TELCO file on the PC side before I sent over to TI? All I did was unzip it and on the PC it does not appear to have any file extension.

....I can feel it getting closer :-o

Good thing you sent this message when you did, because after I press SEND, it's off to bed!

Okay the file inside the ZIP is a TI ARCHIVED FILE called TELCO. Copy that file to DSK2.

Using the archive program on your XB2.7s cartridge, open the archive and send the contents to a blank formatted disk on DSK1.

Once it's done, you'll be able to load TELCO as an E/A5... "DSK1.TELCO"

You'll of course need to change the comport to the one you use, baud rates and all that. By now you're getting the hang of things and can figure it out.

I probably would have unarc'ed it in Classic99 and done a TIFILES FIAD transfer, one file at a time.

Then again, I do not know the format of the Telco disk... Whether it uses sector access or FIAD-type file based routines.

Owen, for most programs that's the way I would have done it, however Telco uses some files with characters that the PC does not like, so it changes them. Since he's a newbie I did not want to confuse him with having to rename a bunch of files, because after sent from a FIAD directory with the file names changed, Telco would not recognize them when he tried to run them on the TI. He would have been up against another problem.

Hopefully he'll end up getting an HDX or HxC in the future and make his life a lot easier.

G' night everyone!

I did all of this stuff the first time. Unfortunately the file won't extract. I think from looking at this post:

http://atariage.com/forums/topic/212807-about-file-types/page-2

That MFM put some type of header on the archived file? Should it have been a DIS/FIX128 file type?

Okay Budz,

Here we go..

Step #1:

gallery_35324_1027_70012.jpg

Once you get the file transferred to your TI's disk drive, it should look like this in DM2K..

gallery_35324_1027_11297.jpg

STEP 2:

a) Now, put the diskette you put the archive on in DSK1.

b) Put a BLANK formatted disk in DSK2.

c) Load the archiver (OPTION V) from your XB2.7s cartridge.

d) Fill in the answers so it looks like this...

gallery_35324_1027_105190.jpg

Now press any key to begin the extraction process.

When you are done, it'll look like this...

gallery_35324_1027_61492.jpg

Now you have a usable Telco disk.

What terminal program are you using on the PC side?

If this is what it is supposed to look like, then it won't extract. I/O error 4.

TELCO

I erased everything after this and tried the process again, but when I tell MFM that I want to keep headers on the file won't transfer and errors out.

Maybe you have a better terminal program?

DOUBLE EDIT:

Now everytime it gets to 640 bytes it won't transfer. I can't even get the TELCO file back on the disk because I erased it to start over. Maybe I'll try another disk later or something....getting annoyed with this.

Budz,

Sorry for all the trouble. Do you have a copy of Ti99Dir? If so, make a blank image with Ti99Dir, and then copy the file to the new image and then work from the new image. It's just possible that while I formatted the disk SSSD/40, there may be something different because I made it on my TI that has the 80 track mod on the controller card.

If that still does not work, I'm without a clue, however this place is filled with TI-Gods that know so much more than me, maybe one of them will have the solution?

Well I transfer the file again from the PC and got the same I/o error 4. The same thing happened when tried to extract the file. It fills up the new disk with just one file (TELCO) and then runs out of room (358/358), hence the I/O error.

I am willing to try the Ti99Dir thing, but I have no idea what I am doing. I downloaded Ti99Dir, made a new image called TELCO.dsk, copied TELCO(the archive you sent me) into the .dsk file. Removed the file extension.

Interesting, when I right click on the TELCO file you made in ti99dir it says it is not an archive, but when I double click it, it drills down to all the files it contains... bizzare?

Anyway...new question: I was able to download WYTERM-ARC from The heatwave, unarchive it to a disk and run it (yay!), but I think this program is even older than fast term because it seems to old support 1200 baud. I also see there is a copy of TELCOARC on the heatwave, but the file looks WAY TOO BIG for me to download (hence why I tried fast term). Besides the amazeballs uber secret terminal program you are using.... have you heard of any other ANSI supporting programs for the TI? So far I have tried FastTerm and WYTerm.

I would ask you to upload your small TELCO archive to heatwave, but I already have it on disk here and I just cannot get it to unarchive :\

Just for giggles I extracted the files on the PC, transferred them all one at a time to the TI while renaming them with > and / ..... still won't work. I'm calling it.

Try using TI99Dir to do the copy. Create a TELCO.dsk image and open it (double-click it) in one panel. Extract the TELCO file from the ZIP file and open it (which unARCs it) by double-clicking it in the other panel. Mark all of the files by tapping Ctrl-+ (use the ‘+’ on the keypad). Copy them all at once to the TELCO.dsk in the other panel by tapping F5.

...lee
