Opry99er
My CF7 is officially gone. A friend on here offered to repair my non-functioning CF7, all I had to do was find it. I started looking through all my stuff a few weeks ago and finished the search tonight. Over the 3 moves in as many years (two of them across country) the CF7 has disappeared. I am saddened because it was one of the original CF7s... From 5 or 6 years ago. Anyway, during my search, I discovered that many of my cart labels are starting to discolor... The Pitfall label is barely recognizable and the TF 1.1 label has faded some... Other ones are the Funware carts. Mostly, the labels without the clear coat are fading. I NEED TO GET MY STUFF INTO A CLIMATE-CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT PERMANENTLY!!!! So... I say all this to ask if anyone has a spare nano they wouldn't mind parting with for a reasonable price. I have been watching Jamie's eBay store and there hasn't been much activity of late. I have heard that nanos can be bought from an online store overseas. Not sure if that is how they are ALL being sold now or not. Thanks in advance.
seanlanefuller
Sorry, I can't help you with your search, but maybe you can help me learn. What is CF7 and what is a nano?
Opry99er
They are PEB emulators, essentially. A small piece of hardware that plugs into your TI-99 via the side port. They contain a PIO port (on the CF7) or a serial port (nanoPEB). They also contain 32k memory expansion and a flash reader/writer that allows you to use a Compact Flash card as a "hard drive" of sorts.... It is more intricate than all that, but this is a basic rundown.... It replaces the large heavy silver box on the desk.
Opry99er
And where is Tullahoma in relation to Monterey, TN? That's where I live now. Didn't think there were any 99ers out here in the dirty south.
seanlanefuller
Thanks. Sounds like I want one. Lucky for you I am on a spending freeze for a bit. You won't get any competition from me.
Shift838
have you tried to email Jamie to find out if he has any of the version 1's available. I know he sells versions 1 every so often. I bought a version one some 6 months ago after I got the Version 2. I just emailed him and he said he had some when I did it. He may still. seanlanefuller
Hi neighbor. Looks like you are 94 miles northwest of me. It is a small world. I haven't run into anybody in my neck of the woods that collects retro computers. I guess it takes a certain kind of person. There are so many I would love to have and it hurts me to know that so many have just been thrown away.
Ed in SoDak
They're memory-card based replacments for the large PEB expansion box for the TI. CF7 replicates the serial RS232 while the nano the PIO parallel. EDIT: Or the other way 'round! Don't quote me! Both provide 32k memory and a disk emulation. 5 replies came in while typing this, so I'm no doubt being redundant already! -Ed Edited June 2, 2015 by Ed in SoDak
Omega-TI
Sorry, I can't help you with your search, but maybe you can help me learn. What is CF7 and what is a nano? You can see a bunch of detailed photos of a NANO-PEB << HERE >>. The unis are basically the same except the CF7 has a parallel printer port and the Nano has a serial port that can be used with Stuart's Browser on a UDS-10. Let's form a motorcycle gang called the Asgard 99ers and cruise Tennessee recruiting new blood... In order to be "jumped in" to the Club, you must reach the second row of worms on Invaders without losing a base, you must be able to Climb McKinley on Alpiner blindfolded, and you must be able to Get through an asteroid belt and refueling bay in Parsec on speed "3". You can do all that... then we'll kick the hell out of you and give you your bottom rocker. You care to be a founding member?

seanlanefuller
Cool! I am going to have to go into training just to be a founding member. I just got my copy of PARSEC only 2 days ago and only played for a couple of minutes. I have watch YouTube video of Alpiner being played. I have never played invaders either. I never owned a TI back in the day. I had a TRS-80 Model I with 4k which I eventually upgraded to Level 2 basic and 16 KB. That got me most of the way through college. Before I was out I got a Model 100 and a CoCo 3. I really wanted a vintage computer and had been watching Ebay for a good deal. My cousin had a TI and always bragged about how great it was. I was taken in when he talked about sprites and it made me want one. The funny thing is that the TI basic on the TI-99/4a doesn't have sprites. I didn't realize he was using extended basic. I plan to upgrade at some point when I have recouped from bidding on a couple of TI-99/4a's that I combined into 1 that worked. I only hope that they don't become even more rare and expensive by that time.

+OLD CS1
AND you have to play the games with the TI controllers! And we will put you in front of Zero Zap with some Clockwork Orange crap on your head. Or you could just slam a sensitive body part down onto a 40 pin ICD header.
