sparkdrummer
I will be receiving my Zoomfloppy today. What software would you guys recommend using to download from the internet to the floppy drive? Are these thingies pretty easy to set up? I am getting my 64c motherboard back from Ray today as well - things are looking up for my C64 endeavors. -Ralph... I just use OpenCBM: http://root.org/~nate/c64/xum1541/index.html http://root.org/~nate/c64/opencbm-ZoomFloppy-2.0-i386.zip http://root.org/~nate/c64/ZoomFloppy-Manual-2.0.pdf For Windows of course. As far as setup goes, not much really to it. You'll need a USB cable where one end is a mini-USB and then of course your IEC cable that goes to your drive. Just make sure you read the PDF manual, because it's important you follow the proper power up/down procedures for it. +OLD CS1
I do not have a ZoomFloppy, but for unprotected stuff (probably could do protected, too, but I have not tried) I also use OpenCBM and an XM1541 cable. I have nibtools but have not yet tried them out. All I know is having a 1571 attached and working with my Windows machine is pretty sweet. Now if only I knew how to write a Windows filesystem handler to make the 1571 show up as an actual drive... Now to go research the Zoom Floppy Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/239070-zoomfloppy/#findComment-3250976 Share on other sites
sparkdrummer
Zoomfloppy installed. Works great! Is there any site out there that has a collection of utility software for the c64? Like a diagnostic disk for the computer and a disk alignment? Also is there any site out there that has disk fiiles for a Vic 20? I picked one of those up along with another c64 on Saturday off of cl. carlsson
One of the sites you'll probably want to traverse is Zimmers FTP: http://zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/ As for the VIC-20, while it perfectly supports floppy drive, it never was much common back in the days which is why the majority of files you'll find are PRG and perhaps cartridge images. Some people may have collected disks full of mainly single filed games (I did once upon a time) but I don't know how many of such collections have been uploaded. You can browse around on the link above, and I'm sure that OpenCBM just as well will let you transfer over individual files as whole disk images. UKRetrogamer
I will be receiving my Zoomfloppy today. What software would you guys recommend using to download from the internet to the floppy drive? Whatever you do, don't go looking at things like the Flyer Internet Modem. It'll blow your mind! Downloading disc-images stored remotely on the Internet is witchcraft from the future? Back in the day, a lot of the stuff we're attaching to our old machines would've seemed like Science Fiction. It's good time to be a retro-computing enthusiast with all of these new-fangled devices around. http://www.retroswitch.com/products/flyer/ Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/239070-zoomfloppy/#findComment-3255062 Share on other sites
