E3 2015

I am blown away by the announcements on the Xbox side of E3 this year.

Fallout 3 to be bundled with Fallout 4 (an Xbox Exclusive)

Star Wars Battlefront game play trailers

Elite Dangerous now available for preview and early purchase at a discount

Cortana via Kinect

Titanfall added to EA Access (which is free this week for gold members)

New Elite controller (to the tune of $150)

I'm sure there is more that I've missed or forgotten. Microsoft knocked it out of the park this year. I'm feeling really good about my XBO purchase.

Some of the announcements were just "meh" to me, like the EA deal. The new controller looks really nice, but not $150 nice to me. Much of the rest of their conference was about things we already knew were coming.

The highlights for me consist of the backwards compatibility announcement, the Rare collection, the new Rare game. I'm glad to see they are doing something useful with Rare again.

I'm guessing a lot of hardcore gamers will happily shell out the $150 for the Elite controller. It looks like an amazing controller. For a casual player like me, however, it is definitely not worth it. That would be like me paying $2,000 for a Fender Strat when all I know how to play is "Smoke on the Water" and a couple of chords.

I stand by my claim that EA Access is the best value in gaming right now, and Titanfall only makes it better. The best thing about that announcement is Titanfall servers are about to become fully populated again.

The backwards compatibility news is a game changer.

I installed Elite Dangerous and had a go at the tutorial last night. I might as well have been trying to fly the actual space shuttle.

I thought MS had a solid conference. The X360 backwards compatibility and the exclusives like Halo 5, Gears, ReCore, Sea of Thieves, Rare Replay, Ashen and Elite Dangerous (console exclusive) all looked really cool to me. If MS would have shown more of Quantum Break, Scale Bound and Phantom Dust at this years E3, they would have knocked it out of the park for me, as I thought those looked great at last years E3.

I know this sounds a little crazy, but in the high end controller market, the new Elite controller is actually a good deal. To get everything that Microsoft is including with the Elite would cost around $200 - $225 if you bought a decked out Scuf One controller.
