Game port idea - Gridrunner by Jeff Minter (possibly even for mini-memory)

1 color per sprite.

But why not draw the camel with background characters? It's big and blocky, and it comparably doesn't move very often. ;) (And still small enough to draw every frame for the scrolling).

That's what I was thinking. You use sprites for things that are moving often/fast - because you don't have to erase them before you move them. Given the slow rate of movement of the camel, I would think it's possible to implement is using background characters.

One thing: The C64 has a 40 column (colour) screen. We have a 32 column screen.

But the camel has to move in front of a scrolling mountain range, I think that would be difficult to obtain using characters and would require the mountains and the camel to be the same color. I think it would be easier to display the camel using 3x2 magnified sprites, use the remaining sprite per line for the ship, and either depend on a flicker routine or use background characters for the shot.
