Rick Dangerous
Hiya! It occurred to me recently i'd rather not pay $250 for House of the Dead on Sega Saturn. Anyone know of any future versions of the game or anthologies that include it? Wikipedia say only Saturn and PC, which I find hard to believe. I know there is a Wii anthology that has 2&3...you think they could have included 1 but maybe they didn't think the graphics aged well or who knows.. Thanks Edited August 1, 2015 by travistouchdown
WeWantWaffles
That's all ya get I'm afraid! I got a Wii U in part because of the house of the dead 2 & 3 remake on it >.> and boy does it ruin a person's hand to spam that trigger xD Anyways I once read that Sega lost some of their old data, and a quick search on the internet kind of confirmed that. Maybe that's why they never re-released it? Then again, it could just be a conscious choice .. I mean Sega makes some bad decisions these days xD On a side note, I absolutely hate compilations of old games. They deliberately leave out games which are conveniently located for much more money on the nintendo e-shop or xbox live or the ps3 / ps4 store. You'll get situations like this, where you get game 2 & 3 but not 1 or 4. It must be moneygrubbing.

Lost Dragon
I had it on PC a few years ago, think i paid all of £2 for it new then. Was'nt that impressed by it to be honest, but it seemed better than the Saturn version (I know Sega were streched at the time, but i really wish they'd either handled game in-house or saved for a double pack launch title of HOTD 1+2 on DC, rather than have a 3rd party attempt on Saturn). Nearly did a double take when i saw the $250 price quoted above. Is it that rare?
Skippy B. Coyote
And here we have the reason why there isn't a Sega Saturn in my gaming center yet. I know that if I ever got a Saturn the first games I'd want to pick up for it are The House of the Dead and DonPachi. While the latter wouldn't break the bank, the former sure as heck would. It's times like this that I really wish people could make reproductions of disc based games that wouldn't degrade and become unreadable after five or ten years. Getting reproductions of expensive cartridge based games to play and enjoy is no problem, and all those reproduction cartridges will still play just as well in twenty years as they do today. When it comes to games in discs though, well... you're pretty much stuck shelling out the big money for authentic factory originals if you want your games to hold up and stay playable over the long term. On a side note, if you do happen to pick up a copy of The House of the Dead then I highly recommend investing in a Nyko Super Cobra light gun. The Saturn version can be a bit tough to track down, but it's far and wide the best home console light gun from that era. It's very accurate, has a nice force feedback kick to it, has LED arrays on the sides that light up when you fire, and has all the auto fire and auto reload options you could want built right in.
Austin
Well that sucks. Guess i'm going to have to break the piggy bank at some point.. Load up a virtual machine on your PC and grab that version. It's cheaper and is far, far better than the Saturn release. Heck, you might even be able to run it in Windows 7 without going through a VM. I'll have to try the copy I have (currently I run it on an old Windows '95 machine). And here we have the reason why there isn't a Sega Saturn in my gaming center yet. The Japanese version of House of the Dead is relatively cheap and it's pretty much the same game. Who's forcing you to pay $200+ for a copy? http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-House-of-The-Dead-Sega-Saturn-Japan-Ver-/321804485009?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aed0ac191
Flojomojo
I wish HOTD 1 were on GOG. I've got a disc somewhere, but ...yuck. I had the Saturn version, it was one of the last USA releases. It played well and sounded great, but looked like a GBA game. Chunky.
Professor Gull
Well that sucks. Guess i'm going to have to break the piggy bank at some point.. Well 2 things here if you go the Saturn route mod it so it will play CDR's then you will be way under $200 and play whatever you want. I have no clue what the stunners cost or other guns for it but I can't imagine they are that much. That would be suggestion...or stop on by my place and play it. Note to self I still need to get another CRT TV at some point.

Yarr, ahoy, shiver me timbers ...then again, if Sega cared about this series, they'd still be monetizing it OH WAIT THEY DO You can play House of the Dead Overkill on last-gen systems, so long as you have a light gun and a CRT (or patience using a controller) OR get THE TYPING OF THE DEAD on Steam, and play with your keyboard. It's wacky, tacky, and gross, just like plain old gun-based HotD, but a hundred times goofier. It was on the Dreamcast in Japan but the PC version is nicer IMHO. I remember playing that for Dreamcast with the keyboard. Its a awesome game teaching you words and how to type quick while making zombies explode. Excellent.

Thanks 250 dollars for house of the dead on Saturn? Just buy a Japanese one. You can get it for 50 dollars with gun easily.
