Eric7100
David was a visionary! Anyone else remember the epic run of games in 2011 to 2012-ish? :-) Maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly, but I always felt that I was able to keep up with David. Not true for you, Rev. +Rev
Ten ways to save money! . Move bank accounts to take advantage of perks and earn more interest If youre paying a monthly fee for your checking or savings account, you would benefit from researching some of newest banking offers out there. Not only do some banks offer sign-up bonuses simply for opening an account and setting up direct deposit, but some offer attractive interest rates to new customers as well. Its true that interest rates are not what they once were, but its still worth a look. Some of the best free checking accounts and best savings accounts can be found online. Heres a guide on how to make that switch. 2. Turn off the television. One big way to save money is to drastically cut down on the amount of television you watch. There are a lot of financial benefits to this: less exposure to spending-inducing ads, a lower electric bill (and perhaps a lower cable bill if you downgrade your subscription), more time to focus on other things in life such as a side business and so on. Want to take things a step further? Consider cutting the cord to cable TV altogether. 3. Stop collecting, and start selling There was a time when people thought their collections would bring them riches. Beanie Babies were a big fad at one time, as were Longaberger baskets. Now you can find those items on resale sites like Craigslist and at garage sales for a fraction of their initial cost, leaving many people who sunk thousands of dollars into their investments wondering what happened. If you want to avoid that situation, dont collect items of questionable value. And if you want to recoup some of the money youve already spent on collectible items, you can start selling them now and use those funds for any number of worthy financial goals. Read our Guide to Selling Unwanted Items for some simple strategies that can help you profit as much as possible. 4. Sign up for every free customer rewards program you can. No matter where you live, youll find plenty of retailers who are willing to reward you for shopping at their store. Heres the basic game plan for maximizing these programs: create a Gmail or Yahoo address just for these mailings, collect every card you can, and then check that account for extra coupons whenever youre ready to shop. You can add to those rewards and discounts by using rewards credit cards to earn points on purchases at a wide range of stores that can be redeemed for cash back or other benefits. 5. Make your own gifts instead of buying stuff from the store. If you want to save money while also giving generously, creating your own homemade gifts is one way to accomplish both goals. You can make food mixes, candles, fresh-baked bread or cookies, soap, and all kinds of other things at home quite easily and inexpensively. These make spectacular gifts for others because they involve your personal touch something you cant buy from a store and quite often theyre consumable, meaning they dont wind up filling someones closet with junk. Even better include a personal handwritten note with the gift. 6. Master the 30-day rule. Avoiding instant gratification is one of the most important rules of personal finance, and waiting 30 days to decide on a purchase is an excellent way to implement that rule. Quite often, after a month has passed, youll find that the urge to buy has passed as well, and youll have saved yourself some money simply by waiting. If youre on the fence about a purchase anyway, waiting a while can give you a better perspective on whether its truly worth the money. 7. Write a list before you go shopping and stick to it. One of the easiest ways to save money is to only shop when you have a list. Because when youre without one, you typically end up making impulse buys and unplanned purchases all things that cost money. Creating a list before you go to the grocery store is especially important. Not only can it help you buy items that fit with your meal plan, but it can also help you avoid buying food you might waste. Always create a list and, more importantly, stick to it. 8. Invite friends over instead of going out. Going out to eat or out on the town has a way of completely destroying both your food budget and your entertainment budget in one fell swoop. And no matter what, it is always cheaper to stay in with friends and come up with your own entertainment. Instead of hitting the town, host a fun pitch-in dinner with your friends. Play cards, sit around a fire pit, or watch movies with your guests. Youll all save money and have a blast. 9. Repair clothing instead of tossing it. Dont toss out a shirt because of a broken button sew on a new one with some closely-matched thread. Dont toss out pants because of a hole in them put in a patch of some sort and save them for times when youre working around the house. Most basic sewing jobs can be completed by anyone, and a little bit of practice goes a long way. Learning basic sewing skills is a great way to save some money and extend the life of your clothing. Photo: Chris Learn basic sewing techniques and you can mend worn-out clothing instead of tossing it. Photo: Chris 10. Dont spend big money entertaining your children. Most children, especially young ones, can be entertained very cheaply. Buy them an end roll of newspaper from your local paper and let their creativity run wild. Play ball in the backyard. Head to the park. Plant a garden. Teach them to ride a bike without training wheels once and for all. Realize that what your children want most of all is your time, not your stuff, and youll find money in your pocket and joy in your heart.

+Tarzilla
C'mon... you know as well as I do that Rev won't slow down for anybody. My words don't even phase him, apparently. I mean... timing his latest releases just 3 days before Christmas when all of our wallets are already drained/strained... that is low, man. That is low. Games get released when they are done, there is a significant up front investment in time and money of many people, not just Rev. When it all comes together he has to release them to recoup his cash outlay for materials. Maybe there is an untapped side business for someone with some extra cash, time and patience: Homebrew Holdings Subscribe to all future Intellivision releases. HH agrees to buy one of each release for the subscriber. Subscriber pays set amount each month until cost of release plus original shipping plus $10 for storage and handling plus cost of re-shipping to subscriber. Not something I'd waste time doing myself. It looks like people are tired of the "slow down" rant so let's start a new one: Canadians are a larger per capita supporter of Intellivision and ColecoVision Homebrews (using numbers pulled out of my ass, I mean gut.) We should get a break from the crushing exchange rate. I demand our currency be treated as par! Kudos to Rev for keeping his price where it is.

SiLic0ne t0aD
Start setting money aside for homebrews.. put a little bit of money in to a few jars, one for each new game. That's what I may start doing but then again I'm not worried about having every game. I once wanted every ColecoVision homebrew but so many are released, it's impossible for me to have them all. Anymore I just buy what I know i'll enjoy and I think I'm happier that way as I don't want to be a slave to the OCD side of collecting.. it's supposed to be fun. Anymore I care less about video games at the moment since I got my '89 Ford Ranger with 2.3L Turbo - Merkur XR4Ti engine swap running, so that takes all my money and time these days and I'm fine with that since that'll bring me more joy in the long-run vs. trying to collect every homebrew for multiple systems. :-)
+Rev
I frequent thrift stores all the time...and garage sales.Always have for years and years. No time? Stop at one a week or so on the way home from work. Find stuff to resell is kinda easy. Example: the thrift stores near me are always selling those guitar hero and rock band guitars for around 5 bucks. Then I go to gamestop and buy a game or two for 1 buck......put on ebay for buy-it-now around 40 bucks and 10 bucks shipping. I sold 4 this week. Well crap. I told one of my secrets. Now I may have more competition on ebay. Point is, for a little extra time and work, you can find ways to get "gaming funds". I'm not rich by any means. Me deal with my wife is my hobby must pay for itself. I've dipped into personal funds sometimes but put back later. Anyway.....
+fdr4prez
I demand our currency be treated as par! I've been traveling to Vancouver once or twice a year for the past 15+ years. I've been to stores and food joints that see that I am from the US and they say "don't pay with your card, we'll take your US cash and give you a better exchange rate than your card" which is OK for me, but I found it funny when the loonie raised to be even or better than the US dollar a few years ago, everyone put up notices on the doors "No US Dollars Accepted". Of course when the loonie dropped, so did those signs.

Funny you mention a customer rewards program. I had thought of some kind of redeemable coupon included in every game. Maybe 10 games and get a free one or something like that.. Maybe coupon printed on the back of the box so people have to cut the box up.
+cmart604
I am merely expressing my point of view on the matter. I wish more people would agree that slower is better. We wouldn't have to choose that way. We could have them all. And while you're certainly entitled to your opinion, I'm pretty sure that by now everyone knows your thoughts on the matter and it just feels like your piling on Rev because he's not going to cowtow to your wishes. There is no rule or law that says you must buy them all, or that you must buy multiple copies of each release. Maybe buy less of those that you're not as excited about. I've bought less copies of some releases myself....

We wouldn't have to choose that way. We could have them all. Eric, you have expressed your view more times than I care to count. Everyone who reads these forums is clear on where you stand. As much as you wish it were otherwise, the number of posts you make saying essentially the same thing won't cause more people to agree with you. Rev has been hinting at these latest game releases for months, and only now that everything is ready is he starting to take orders. I think you'll find the actual shipping date to be closer to January. And he said just recently in this thread that he doesn't expect to sell out of his titles. So buy them (or not) when it's a good time for you, though tax season will be coming soon, and then there's summer vacations, back to school, etc., etc. And you keep badgering the guy who sells complete boxed games for less than anyone else. Try to remember that with all things in life, nobody can have it all, and obsessing over not having it all will suck all the fun out of what you do have. And that, as the saying goes, is my 2 cents. +cmart604
I frequent back alleys all the time...and Turkish Bath Houses. Always have for years and years. No time? Stop at one a week or so on the way home from work. Finding older men to give handies to is kinda easy. Example: the homeless guys near me are always asking me to give it up for around 5 bucks. So I go to gamestop and buy a condom or two for 1 buck......put on the street for get-it-now around 40 bucks and 10 bucks for a second shot. I sold 4 of these packages this week. Well crap. I told one of my secrets. Now I may have more competition in the back alley. Point is, for a little extra time and work, you can find ways to get "gaming funds". I'm not rich by any means.
