Shawn
Hey All, So I got the new Skylanders game for my son. I've played a little of it with him. The game is pretty fun. The new vehicle gimmick is interesting. The plane controls are good, the boat controls are good BUT the car controls are HORRIBLE. With the focus being on the car so much it really does take away from an otherwise great addition to the series. The new figures that can "super charge" the vehicles is pretty cool. Any figure can pilot any vehicle but if you pair the right figure with the right car there are bonuses to your stats. It's for sure a money grab but it is fun when you do own the needed figures. Speaking of buying the figures there has been a price hike on all of them. Seems the smaller figures and the bigger ones have both gone up by $2 to $3 each. Previously the vanilla Skylanders where around $12 now they are $15, the deluxe ones (super, ect, whatever) have gone from $15 to $18ish, $20+ after sales tax. So in closing, the game is fun, the controls on the car really should have been better and the price hike is a little hard to swallow. If they patch the controls on the car it would be a solid 8/10 game. As is it's a solid 7/10. Shawn
KeeperofLindblum
Good to know the game has kept up with itself! Being on their fifth sequel, it must be hard to keep creating newer and different forms of playing the game. They are going to really have to step things up to compete with the Star Wars Infinity and the soon-to-be-released Lego Dimensions! I've seen a few of the new characters and vehicles. Overall, they are all pretty neat looking and fairly creative. (Don't know what to think about the cost increase though...) All costs aside, my experience with the series is pretty positive. I picked up Skylander's Swap Force a couple years back when it went on sale. Outside of the whole figurine cost, it's actually a pretty solid game. It provides a challenge without being over the top hard. There is plenty to do and see, and it's even better for kids with the figurines carrying their personal stats on them. If the game was a bit cheaper to play, I'd probably get it again. XD
Shawn
You can still have a great time playing with just what comes in the standard starter set. You will miss out on some side missions but could play it successfully from start to finish without additional purchases.
KeeperofLindblum
Oh I know you can, but I liked a lot of the extra characters... Then went way too far on purchasing them. XD
