+eebuckeye
I just bought an Amiga CDTV and only get a black and white picture when using RF or composite output (the only outputs I can try). Is this normal?? I would expect not. Anything to try? Thanks!
+save2600
Is it a PAL unit by chance? Cause that might explain the b/w pic...
+eebuckeye
I don't 'think' so.. attached is the label. It is supposed to be NTSC and I see the FCC mark.
+save2600
Perhaps it has been modded to output PAL natively then? I don't have the info handy, but do a search online to try to find if there's a jumper pad by Agnus or the Kickstart chip that forces PAL mode. Kind of like what you see on some A500 motherboards. Just taking a guess here as I'm not sure why else it may be displaying a b/w signal - other than maybe the output circuitry (or bad caps) drifted out of tolerance OR might be some kind of incompatibility with your monitor or TV... +eebuckeye
I connected the CDTV up to my Amiga monitor via RGB and the color is fine. I don't understand.
+save2600
Amiga RGB/monitor doesn't care about 50/60hz color wise. Did the picture shift downwards 1/4" the screen when you switched to RGB? If so, then the CDTV is being forced into PAL mode…
+eebuckeye
The picture was fine with RGB.. not shifted.
+save2600
The picture was fine with RGB.. not shifted. You're screwed! As to Carlsson's suggestion below... CDTV was designed to integrate with your a/v gear, so no... you *are* supposed to be seeing color out of the RF and composite outputs. CD32 as well. A500/A2000 not. B/W composite out supposed to only be used for early startup problems or troubleshooting. A1000 always had color composite output though. No early startup access in Kickstart 1.3. 2.x+ had that feature.
carlsson
It is possible that the composite actually is a monochrome output, just like on the Amiga 500. However I recently discovered the original Amiga 1000 has true composite output, so it could be either. Do you have a mouse to connect to the CDTV? If so, hold down both mouse buttons when you power it on and see if you get to some sort of early startup menu. At least with the later Kickstarts, you could toggle 50/60 Hz from that mode but it isn't given the CDTV supports it.
+eebuckeye
I do have a mouse but I think it is running Kickstart 1.3.
Seob
I don't 'think' so.. attached is the label. It is supposed to be NTSC and I see the FCC mark. I have a PAL unit and it has the exact same label. since you're label also has german writing on it i guess that either commodore used the same label for all their models or you're model is a PAL version.
