+atari2600land
So I had an idea to try and get back into INTV Basic programming. It took me a while to get the hang of it again since it had been so long. Why not display a banana on the screen and put "Bananas are good." on there also. Perhaps it can be a title screen for a new game. It took a looooong time for INTYColor to like my image, and as a result, it is kind of crappy. I am wondering if anyone can do better. Here, take a crack at INTV-ifying this banana image. Oh, and look at my little thing I made. bananatitleblackbg.bmp banana.bin
GroovyBee
There are 5000+ colours in that image. You need to get it down to 16 and decide if its a colour stack or foreground/background mode image.
+atari2600land
Here's the same picture with 16 colors (I think.) bananatitleblackbg16.bmp
GroovyBee
Its 16 colours but not in the Intellivision palette or adhering to its display restrictions. Without using MOB overlays you can only have 2 colours per 8x8 grid. I can see artefacts from anti-aliasing which you'll have to manually remove. +atari2600land
I got it down to two colors. It should be three, though, I don't know how to get the bright yellow to show up on the INTV. banana.zip bananatitle2colorsaa.bmp

GroovyBee
Had a quick mess with the image :- bananatitle2colorsaa.bmp Use the "-m" command line option in intycolor to handle the sprites.
+DZ-Jay
That looks good, GroovyBee, but it's missing all the shading that makes the original stand out. That said, it does look like a cool background for a more detailed title screen. I would suggest, aligning it closer to the left (completely at the expense of that left-most peel strand) and a bit lower, so that the text of the title can fit on the upper-right corner. -dZ.

I did make some small changes to the original and tried to add more detail after that but it blew the GRAM card limit. Using colour stack and some GROM tiles would claw some of that back. +atari2600land
Error message time. I must be missing some sort of file I need that isn't constants.bas?
GroovyBee
Have you installed the latest IntyBASIC? You can find constants.bas in the samples folder.

GroovyBee
Did intycolor display any errors?
+atari2600land
Nope. This is what it came back with.
GroovyBee
Are you using the latest version of intycolor?
+atari2600land
I was using the one with 1.2.3, not the one that came with 1.2.4. So I used the one that came with 1.2.4 and that weird square disappeared. Thank you, GroovyBee.
+atari2600land
Now I just need to think up of a game concept to go with this. banana.zip
+DZ-Jay
OK, I solved that problem, but the result is this: bananasquare.gif How about this title: "Time flies like the wind... Fruit flies like bananas." Then the concept is similar to the Waffle project or Worm Whomper, where you try to kill flies. -dZ.
+atari2600land
That's kind of a long title for a game. Worm Whomper is a rare game so I don't have it. What do you do in it?
+DZ-Jay
That's kind of a long title for a game. Worm Whomper is a rare game so I don't have it. What do you do in it? The title is a silly pun: there's a saying, "time flies like the wind"; meaning that it goes too fast ("fly" as in "move fast", and "like" as in "just as"). Then you juxtapose it with "fruit flies like bananas" ("fly" as in the bug, and "like" as in "prefer" or "enjoy"). Anyway, Worm Whomper is similar to your Waffle game in that there are worms and other bugs that attack from the right, moving horizontally towards your crops, and you must kill them. It's quite more sophisticated than the Waffle game, but similar in spirit. I think killing flies would make a cool game, and of course, fruit flies do like bananas. -dZ. +atari2600land
Yeah, I got the pun title, I just think it would be a little too long. I'm thinking about making the fruit fly game, which would be similar to the one in Mario Paint. The banana would be in the background, and sprite 5 would be a flyswatter, sprite 6 would be the hand that holds it, and sprite 7 would be the fruit fly. I tried making the image with a white background, but when I put the letters in, they were all weird so it wouldn't work.
GroovyBee
Its not got flies or bananas in it but something like Pedro (on the Speccy) would fit quite well on the Inty :-
carlsson
How about something like Mosquito Infestation, but with a banana to protect instead of a hand?
+atari2600land
Good news! I don't know how, but I changed the background color to white and got the yellow text on the white background as well! banana.zip
