Hm, are you one of those who have no means of file transfers with the Commodore world? It is possible that building a prlink cable would help you, but you might as well invest a moderate amount of money on a better solution. Well, you could build or buy an X-series cable too, if you've got a PC with a parallel port.

On the buying front, I would think one of the SD2IEC devices should fit you well. As the name implies, this is a SD card device that replaces or is used in parallel to a floppy drive. There are plenty of different types and clones out there, ranging from £30 (for internal mount) to I don't know how much. Usually you'll determine what a device is if the description says it is SD2IEC firmware compatible.

Here is one model for £40 + shipping: http://www.thefuturewas8bit.com/shop/commodore/sd2iec-cl.html

The hardcore Commodore 64 users will start arguing about getting a 1541Ultimate 2 by now, but it is an entirely different price class, and I doubt you will want to spend that much money on a C64 peripheral anyway.

If you have a PC with a parallel port, you could try to buy or build a XM1541 or better cable. Possibly these have gone out of fashion so you can't buy them readymade anymore, but here are some build instructions. You'll need a DB25, a 6-pin DIN, a cable and four 1N5819 or BAT85 Schottky diodes.

It would let you connect the 1541 directly to the PC and that way transfer files and images to floppy disks. Then you move the drive to the C64 of course.

If you feel adventurous, you could also try to make a prlink or PC64 cable which you connect directly between the PC and C64, but as a solution it probably worked best 20 years ago.

Ah, I missed that you are from Dusseldorf. You can contact the Dienstagstreff Commodore Club which meets every Tuesday in Bochum.

The members of that club can help you get the programs you need onto floppy disk. If you wish to contact Dirk K., one of the leaders of the club, I can give you his e-mail address in a private message.

Merry Christmas,
