Centipede on 7800

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure NTSC carts do NOT work at all in a PAL 7800 system and vice versa. It's not like the 2600 that way, where you can simply expect the wrong colors and adjust your vertical hold.

On my NTSC 7800's, when inserting a PAL cart, all I get is a black screen.

I have a copy of JOUST for my PAL Atari which I bought on eBay from a british seller to make sure I will receive a PAL cartridge. What I got was obviously a NTSC module because the label is b/w and states "Pro System". The reason why I tell you this is that it works in my PAL system without flaws. Coincidence I guess :)

Joust for the 7800 uses the same cart label for both NTSC and PAL versions. :!:

For that matter, so do all of the Atari released games for the 7800. Occasionally you will see a difference in copyright date and printing location, that is all. PAL 7800 games generally have a P sticker on the back of the cart but it comes off sometimes.

About a decade ago a thread was started which listed the results of 7800 NTSC cartridges running on a 7800 PAL machine. The results vary.
A similar thread was started a couple of years ago, revisiting the issue.
As noted in the aforementioned linked threads, while there are some NTSC cartridges that will run on a PAL 7800 console, original 7800 PAL cartridges can never run on an original* NTSC 7800 console due to the lack of the encryption key signature for PAL 7800 cartridges that NTSC 7800 consoles require.
*If an original NTSC 7800 console BIOS is replaced with a 'universal' or PAL/Euro one with Asteroids, or some other customized mod, then it is possible for PAL games to at least attempt to possibly run on an NTSC 7800 console; see Best Electronics 7800 BIOS swap "OS upgrade" for example. I've seen as far as the copyright notice displaying from a Commando PAL cart running under a NTSC console with such a modification.
