towmater
I'm in the midst of adding a second drive to an SX64, and I actually couldn't remember how to backspace as I fumbled through typing 'Load "*",8,1' about a half dozen times before I got it right. Anyways, I thought it would be great if the machine had a bang-bang sequence like the old Silicon Graphics Irix machines had, so for the hell of it I typed '!!' and was left in a strange environment, some kind of monitor maybe. A search on Google yielded no explanation. Does anyone have a link to how to use this monitor built into the SX64 rom?
carlsson
I've never heard of that before. Can you repeat it? I downloaded the SX-64 Kernel and tried in emulated environment, but the only thing that happens is a ?SYNTAX ERROR. Perhaps your computer is customized? Anyway, you could use a fastloader cartridge with the SX-64 and get an automatically enabled DOS wedge. You could also upgrade it with JiffyDOS, but that is a more complex and costly solution if you only need a wedge.
towmater
Ahh, the fastloader. I tried a !! on the sx64 without it and received nothing but syntax error, so it must be a feature of the Epyx Fast Load cartridge I had inserted. It actually just needs a single ! to activate, I guess the second ! I typed was ignored.
carlsson
Yup, typing ! brings you into SMON. http://ar.c64.org/rrwiki/images/c/c4/Epyx_FastLoad_Manual.pdf
SSG
I surely love the fastload cartridge. We just discovered it doesn't like to run with a SD card device.
carlsson
Which SD card device is that? The sd2iec firmware has repeatedly been mentioned as being compatible with Epyx Fastload, and one reseller even offers custom made Epyx replicas. We couldn't get it running until we took the fastload out.
carlsson
Perhaps you want to try again later, given that the combo is said to be one that works best. Also I think EF compatibility has been around for many revisions of the firmware, but it could be worth checking which one is in your SD2IEC based device. Guest LiqMat
This particular SD2IEC I use works very well with the Epyx Fastload cart. A few hiccups once in a blue moon, but rarely. http://www.thefuturewas8bit.com/index.php/sd2iec
