Dumping Cartidges with a Widget

The Prestel/Viditel software was a program to use an early network that was deploying in parts of Europe at the time. I think they finally shut the French version of it down three or four years ago. . .the networks in other countries were long gone by the year 2000.

The cartridge was developed by TI, but never came to market.

On the p-System modules--yes, there were cartridges designed to work with the p-System. None of them were released commercially, although a couple of them exist in collector hands. I have one that isn't exactly a cartridge--it works as a hardware dongle. The program loads from disk (it is the p-System word processor) and verifies that the dongle is present before it lets the program start.

.

ah jetzt ja, eine Insel :)

I´ve found the "UCSD-Pascal Word Processor" in the list, remember now that you told about before :)

I also found the hint for the dongle there, as I write down many of such infos under "remarks" in da list.

I think, I just enter the "Dongle" itself as a cartridge now, just to have it in the docu.

...

Do you know something about the "servers/host" of Prestel/VidiTel, and how they worked ?

Was this a kind of pre-internet, maybe ?

Maybe this can be revived one day, using TCP/IP, or so.

thx

xXx

It works like this, Toucan:

Take the Editor Assembler and put it in slot one, with the cartridge you want to dump in slot two. Load the CSAVE program from Myarc using the Editor Assembler as a loader (or any other cartridge dump program you like). Slide the switch to slot two on the Navarone and if your dump program doesn't crash, activate it and it will do the dump of the cartridge in slot two. I did this with over 150 cartridges when I first got my Geneve back in 1987. . .the occasional crash is because the Navarone sometimes shifts when you slide the switch, causing a system crash.

I think this program will only work when using the created files on a Geneve correct?

There was a nice write-up on it around the time the system shut down, including an "emulator" based upon a full capture of data on a single day. I wish I could remember when that was or where I read it.

FWIW, the CSAVE utility included with the SuperSpace II works the same way for dumping, at least in the instructions as I have never used the dumper, only the loader. To that end, I have no idea if it is a usable ROM dump or if it comes out in an E/A format. I assume the former.

ah, the first software to access Viditel came from Rob Tempelman (says mainbyte.com)

http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/howto/awards.html

...and "Exelvision" is referred very often on other pages, looks like a terminal or so

I think, the Viditel / Prestel was something like the german BTX/Datex-J in these days)
